I don't kmow much about these and this is my first Honda. It is a 1991 ED sedan, auto with 1.5 twin carbs. It seems that my tranny is slipping and seems to change up and down more than normal. It even changes down sometimes when going downhill. I called Honda and they said it will need an oil change ($165.00) but that's all they do. Do these auto boxes have a filter? Do they have a solenoid that governs gear change? I have been told that low or old oil can cause "slipping" is this true. I have been told to make sure my selector cable is adjusted correctly and the kick down cable and throttle cables. My car is idling at approx 400-+ rpm. What should it be? Surely there must be some adjustments they can do other than change oil. Thanks for any help.

It's a 91 and by now the clutch pack would have worn, especially if the previous owner was not changing the transmission fluid every 2-3 years.

^^ Check that and you should do this (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?p=2476685#post2476685) too!

Yeah get the oil changed, make sure it is genuine auto fluid, then look at the adjustment of your kick down cable, this is the cable that controls the auto shift points according to throttle position. if it keeps playing up then you will need a rebuild or get a second hand one fitted....... you in melb???

Hi, thanks for the input. I live in Brisbane. What would it cost for a rebuild or a second hand box?

I think if you took it to honda for a rebuild it would be about 2-3 grand.

2nd hand box should only cost around 400-600, thats what i can get it for but might be different in Brisbane.

Change oil and get somebody to adjust kick down cable first, could just be a simple fix.
