Hey guys,
Just looking for your views on GPS tracking systems for cars. Would you invest in one of them? Why or why not. Is it too extreme? What are the pros and cons?
Thanks
Brandon

yes, a good kit can be had and installed from $600 with monitoring fees of $50 a month, cheap investment, so if worse comes to worse and you're gear/car is missing, you and the boys/heavies can go in and kick some thief arse (or call the police, they're lazy, few hits to the head with a new bat is the right thing to do :))

Worth it if you have the money as insurance premium skyrockets down hill as the risk of your car is basically NIL aslong as your payments are up to date lol.
If you have the money and its your project car i suggest for it and maybe invest in a immoboliser/kill switch

Yeah my uncle is selling them in malaysia and he'll be sending me a sample...... really like the idea of being able to track your car :) The one hes got can be setup as a imobiliser/killswitch as well. It also logs your speed, direction of travel etc.

How is the monitoring carried out?

I'd like to know the same, is it just a data logger online or do you have an LCD unit that can connect to the GPS signal and visually show location etc?

The way the system works is as follows....
The unit you place in your car has a GPS Antenna and a GSM Antenna. Obviously the GPS recieves signal from the satellite and provides location, heading etc. The GSM (Global System for Mobile Communication) allows you to install a SIM card which sends the info from the GPS to a server. You then can request the info via Mobile phone or computer.
As for the price.... Im not sure yet but will find out when i get the chance.
