View Full Version : Increasing DC5 Power?
Sup guys,
My DC5 goes pretty well on the road. One of my mates just bought an S15 and we are kind of competing with each other. I know the DC5 is not as quick as a turbo'd S15 but i want to increase the power of my car. Does anyone know whats the best way to go about it? Considering its V-tec, Turbo is out of the option for me.

2k isnt very much btw.
Maybe look at some bolt-ons?
+Toda Headers (approx 2k new, 1k 2nd hand)
+FGK Exhaust (approx 1.2-1.4k new)
+Gruppe M / Mugen Intake (approx 1.2-1.4k new)
or
+Injen Intake (approx 500)
Obviously if you're willing to spend more and want to keep it N/A then check out:

Free your DC5's Breathe ability, she will <3 u
do an engine rebuild =] with a good build + i/h/e and a good tune with a kpro, you'll be looking at a rocket. 170+kw atw. After that your mates s15 is outa the picture, you'll be picking on other bigger cars haha

If the car is stock... and your only going to be using it as a street worrier, look into some stiffer engine mounts. This is going to get rid of all the axel tramp you get off the line, so it'll make your launches quicker as you'll be able to launch from 4k RPM. You can pick up a set of simple inserts for around $100 or so from JDMyard (Energy suspension inserts).
Of course there is the trade off that the car is going to vibrate on idle.
Also look into a HD clutch and light weight flywheel.
Getting these parts installed should easily eat up your $2000.
At this point in time I wouldn't worry about any intake or exhaust mods. Wait until you have some more money. But look into doing the "Hondata intake box mod". "Hondata intake box mod" (http://www.hondata.com/techkseriesairboxmod.html).
I'd also get some decent suspension/wheels/tyres before looking into engine mods... no point in having heaps of power if you can't get it to the ground.

I/H/E will not get you any where near 170 kw atw.
Depending on which roller dyno I have seen it net around 130 - 140 kw atw.
This is what I have experience with my car and many other friends' DC5Rs.
Chasing power down the N/A path is very pricey.

Stock your looking at < 120kw
Basic intake/header/exhuast/ECU > 140kw. But again, depends on what mods you have. Some mods (Injen intake) are more based around top end power, whilst other (Mugen/Gruppe M intake) are more based around mid range/response.
But... every dyno is different, and you shouldn't be chasing these figures... You should be chasing a linear power band.

I would go with Ingen intakes and full exhaust setup... (and reduce weight! :D)
