Hey guys,

I have an EH Civic VTi with the D16Y1 (done CAI and headers, not cat/cat-back yet). I also recently I sourced a free D16A8 full conversion for the purpose of education (gonna rebuild/recondition it with a mate to learn how engines work).

So I have been considering dumping it into my Civic once it's reco'd. There would be no engineering cost as it came standard in the Si version and although it's not a VTEC engine like the Y1 it's DOHC, whereas the Y1 is only SOHC.

That way if I'm going to do basic mods the A8 would breathe better and probably pull a bit harder. What do you guys think? This car is a budget/daily driver and I won't be doing internals/FI or anything like that.

Ta,
Andy.

Dude

The DOHC Non VTec's got more torque and would be the best option out of the two...

Thing is you will hardly feel any difference between em so why bother?

There's no engineering cost attached to putting in B16

All very true. But at the end of the day it's just my daily, so I wouldn't put in a B16A...

Resale value man resale..

If its only 1K to put in the D18A go for it.. :)

If its more look at a B16 ;)

I must agree, d16a8 has that lil bit more grunt and also being twin cam, has way more tuning potential (eg. better for turbo i'd say). Compared to a stock d16y1 there isn't much difference besides the vtec.

Is it manual btw? coz no point swapping in an auto

Yeah true, but important note is that I'm staying budget N/A as this is my daily driver. I have a CRX SiR for my toy/weekend car so the Civic will just get some little cheap mods.

Here's how it's looking now with my own 3" custom CAI and Flowtech (Holley) 2" 4-2-1 headers (I think 2.25" is too big for 1.6 SOHC).

CAI cost me $175 and headers $199. Going to do cheao cat & cat-back.

So my main dilemma is...is it even worth the labour to switch them over if I'm only going I/H/E?
