Yes.

As for design, pretty self explanatory on the design basis. 4-1 is 4 outlet tubes from engine cast into one tube;

As for 4-2-1;

4 outlet tubes cast into two tubes then one.

Apparently 4-2-1 is better for low end torque, 4-1, better for higher rpm power. Depends on your engine and mods you have.

what kind of difference does dc2r extractors make on a vtir?

(sorry to hi-jack, but its kind of related)

Probably better flow of pressure through the exhaust and not as restrictive. The JDM ITR headers are meant to be best bang for the buck compared the the AUDM ITR headers.

if u are going to upgrade to ITR headers make sure to get the JDM '98 spec 4-1 Stainless Steel headers... they r the only ones that will really make much difference... you will need a JDM 2.5" cat to fit these (simple bolt on) ...unless u go for an aftermarket cat; but will also need to buy flanges n gasket to make it fit.

Difference wont be huge tho, so its probably better to go all out and get a decent set unless ur on a very tight budget.

duzy: im pretty certain AUDM use 4-2-1 but from what i gather these r pretty useless, certainly not worth the hassle if ur gonna upgrade.

so if i was to buy the dc2r extractors 4 - 2 - 1 in other words i cant bolt on right to my vti -r i need to buy a type r cat back ?

both JDM headers '96 (4-2-1 ci) and '98 (4-1 ss) will require 2.5" cat to bolt right up. just make sure u got the donut gasket that sits in between cat and header n its a pretty simple bot up... took me half an hour or so to do.

I dont think theres much point upgrading headers if u got stock cat-back anyway... but it should bolt up regardless. (although i couldnt tell u for sure)

Using extractors on stock cat will still increase your cars performance e.g 6-10hp. But make sure you get good high quality brands like toda or mugen not cheap ebay stuff because they do crap all!!!. If your worried about the cat just buy a jdm or high flow one there going for like $150 so thats pretty cheap

what i was sayin is that using aftermarket headers with stock cat-back (and cat aswell) will increase the power but not 2 its max potential... most people when upgrading exhaust will 1st get a new cat-back for that extra bit more torque and the note, and then upgrade the header n cat... im sure its not an issue if u do it the other way around but with stock cat-b-pipe etc ur gna lose that flow that u r gaining with the new headers anyway.

Mate if thats your budget I guess you should grab that xforce extractor coz thats pretty cheap. As for your cat there's a guy on here called "EGJOE" selling a jdm dc2 type r cat for like a $120 located in qld. Shoot him a pm and ask if he can post if your not located in brizzy

And heres the link mate:
