Wheels and Size for EK Civic

Hi guys,

Over the weekend i put in my Pedders Rear Camber adjusters and noticed my rear passenger wheel is buckled and banged up pretty badly on the inside.

Currently i have a set of SSA Detox wheels (17x7) however this wheel isn't made anymore apparently. So i was lookin at buying a new set of wheels and tires.

There are a few in the Tenzo-R range that i dont mind and most of the are made with a 4x100 pattern. I'm also thinking of going to an 18x8 (will they fit?)

Basically i'm looking for suggestions on what i should get and to find out if anyone has used the tenzo wheels on their civic before and what they are like.

imo 18's would look out of place and a bit ridiculous on a EK. each to their own though

ask MRGRIM for pics of his car, i remember him saying he had 18", depends on what you like and type of rim, but be careful, as i am rubbing my guards with 15" after lowering my car, however this is due to 2 extra mates in the car though. But yeah, you gotta lower the car, as increasing the rim size may actually increase your height of your car.

I was told 18's are too big. 15-17's would be your best option. Depending what your using your car for; just for show or for performance.

nah 17'' is still to big, look at my car as an example.

its only been less than 4 months and i regret buying it already.

honestly 17 is ok BUT it depends on the wheel itself.. if you want to slam your car i would suggest 15 or 16

i've seen alot of 17s they look fine to me. I'm running 16s, but more for the tyre profiles etc than anything else.

I got 17's on my EK and they go great. can't complain mate............ =]

If you ask me, 17's are fine. My 17's look really small, mainly because I have a body kit on.

I miss my 17s for the 205 coverage over the 195 coverage of the 15s on it at present

all sizes (15+) can look good when setup fine with the suspension

there ya go 18" and fit fine ..ive lowered it since then another 60mm

i have same wheels as shown in the pic of the green civic on my EK and there 17's goes fine

You can get big rims to fit on a civic if you're willing to sacrifice comfort. I used to have 19's on my coupe, it rested on all four bump stops, but I loved it.

Don't let people tell you it can't be done. Cos quite honestly it can.

If you're interested I can try and find some pics of my old car and hook you up with the people that fitted the suspension/rims combo.

I ended up going with the tenzos in the 17" i got em in charcoal but i shoulda got em in black...

I still have my stock 14" but looking to upgrade - but I think when you get the suspension set up good 16" would look good.

I am tossing between 16" and 17" for my EK hatch... I will probably lower it later but for now in my current situation I don't have any plans due to the current driveway, I almost scrape the front bumper on stock.

Speaking of wheel and tyre packages, where is the best place to go... I don't wanna spend a fortune, or get ripped off...

Keep in mind I am in the Caboolture area north of Brisbane.

I mean you always get the Bob Jane specials in the mail (as an example)... but I get the feeling if I go into one of those places and ask for a wheel brand brochure I am gonna get ripped a new one.

I noticed the online dealers, how are they with shipping interstate? A lot of money to hand over online though...

My vote goes for 16's for bling over function. 15's for function over bling.

TSG.. my advice, depending on your budget, is either get a Honda OEM wheel (Fat Fives, Em1 wheels, maybe even Blades, 95% certain those wheels are 15's) or save you cash and get something Japanese.

I am in your boat Alvis, I have plenty of tread, just waiting away for them to wear down. My EK is temporary until I can afford a nice Landcruiser (different worlds I know)... so I don't wanna spend a fortune.

16" you can at least see that its a lower profile wheel (for the looks) But.. if the mood takes I could even go 17" just for the look lol, I ain't racing the thing. As long as the rolling diameter is the same as stock... and there is enough tyre there that it doesn't become a skateboard to drive on... we put 18" on our commodore, what would you say is the equivalent to an 18" on a commodore with ride and handling? We didn't notice any difference in comfort and it handles like a cat on carpet now (the sport suspension helps though).

Probably spend about a grand tops on wheels/tyres, 1/4 the price I paid for the car lol... but seems reasonable? I think... we got quoted $1300 for 18" Speedy wheels with middle of the road tyres for our Commodore.

Just want to give it some sex appeal over hub caps :sleep: for resale and my own enjoyment of the car.

nothing wrong with bigger wheels, though generally bigger the wheel the heavier they usually are(though not always the case) and the heavier than are the less acceleration(or lack thereof in a civic) you have

you can get the best of both worlds by getting larger light wheels at the expense of your bank account going down heaps

But I think i'll go 16" when I get mine - if i go for a bit smaller wheel i would probably be looking to get a more reputable wheel like an ROH Shift R, which look pretty nice..? But yeh, you'd be lookin $1,500+ with wheels easy...

yeah just go for whatever you want, i've gone from some heavy 17's before to 15" stockies on my old em1 and it was night and day difference while driving

currently running 15's and stepping up to mugen mf8's soon in 16's hopefully
thankfully the wheels themselves are about the same weight so it should be happy times :)

the old momo 17's would have been at least 50% heavier than the stock alloys were

just very sluggish, far from responsive
and that was a healthy b16, dunno what it'd be like for a d16

15/16s IMHO are best.

Remember you can a super wide tyre on a 15" rim. You dont have to buy big rims to run a wide tyre. :thumbsup:

Was it noticeable with daily driving though? Or are we talking track conditions here?

Thinking of a 5 spoke or many smaller spoke style wheel for mine. So it isn't anything too 'blingy' and heavy... I also don't wanna rice the thing out. After reading here I am thinking 16" now too, 15" I could pass for if I can get my hands on some actual Honda wheels, 1" and a nice rim doesn't seem worth the upgrade from stock hub caps, not when I am only keeping mine for a year or so. Will keep my eye on the threads here.

I am happy with the stock acceleration my car has, I mean its not fantastic, but it goes better than all the 4cyl hatches in my general family/friend circle, Barina, Pulsar a Getz and an Excel. Actually surprisingly the Getz comes close and is very modern inside, but we're talking a 9 year younger car here worth twice as much. I think it's the Honda part of it shining :honda: and I know it's to do with the engine and power to weight ratio.

Anyone here know if 15x7 + 20 offset rims will fit on a EM1 with out needing guards rolled? Lowered about 2inches. Tyre size can be chosen.

cb7; afaik no, my 15x7 +40 already came very close to my guards running 205/50/15 re01r's, infact i think they were responsible for rolling my guards if you know what i mean

righto, will just stick with 15-16", keeping an eye on the sale threads here. I like my little EK, but not enough to throw out thousands on wheels, so whatever goes on there will be under a grands worth lol. I am trying to save to pay off my uni and upgrade to something more substantial eventually. Probably wont be a Honda, but who knows ;)

There is an interesting set of wheels on eBay, quite local to me... going pretty cheap with plenty of tyre.. if no one bids other than me :p I watched these particular wheels actually end last week, and he put them back up cheaper.

They are 4x100, 16x6.5" and came off a Pulsar before he sold it, Viper brand w/e that is... (I messaged the person)

How do you reckon these would go on my Red EK1 hatch... stupid, decent, an improvement? They are going for $350 with 70% tread on the tyres. The tyres on mine have tread but are shocking in the wet (stocks with cheap rubber)... auction ends next week so plenty of time to think about it.

Seller doesn't know the offset... but if they were on a pulsar they should fit a civic...
