I have Bridgeo's RE050s on my type S. There due for replacement and was wondering what other type S/R owners are running. I was really impressed with these tyres as I have got around 55 000kms out of them and they seem to grip pretty well. However theyre pretty costly and was wondering if yourve found an alternative thats abit less, gets similar grip and lasts a long time (>40 000kms). Obviously its all dependent and your driving and ra ra ra.
Nothing worse then buying something that runs out in 15-20 000kms.
Ive found some tyre review threads but was wondering what people use specific to this car?
I have Bridgestone RE001 and i like them.

+1
Same I replaced my RE050's with the RE001's.
Biggest criticism of the RE001's is the performance in the wet.
Though having said that, RE001's are alot better than RE050's.
I think the RE001's are abit more noisy (road noise) than the RE050's.

is tire life more important than things like grip and performance?
I also went for RE001's on my type s because the price was good (under $1000 for 4x 215/45/17 fitted and balanced) .
but you might also want to consider Yokohama C.Drives, or Michelin Pilot Preceda. which should give a good balance between longevity and performance.
Kumho Escta KU31 and the Hankook Ventus should be quite good too.
I agree with DC5.Raven, RE001's more noisy than RE050 and worse in the wet, but better in the dry. If you got 55k out of RE050's you should be able to get 40k out of RE001
re050 is the best tyre i have tried... take a look at toyo t1r, they are decent or even proxes 4... ku31 are just shit... the road nose is horrible. how do i know that? i currently own a set lol

IMO RE001>RE050 in wet and dry. And the RE001's should last longer as well, according to the treadwear rating. RE050's are only better in terms of road noise and comfort.

Cheers for the reponses people,
Ive spoken to a few tyre people and like anything these days its EXTREMELY difficult to find someone who has half a brain and actually knows detailed information about the career there in!
I no there salesman but ive heard things like 'rubber is rubber, its all the same these cheap imitations are the same.' and 'you will get 50k kms out of anything'. SPose they might catch some people out.
Is there any opionon on an asymetric type pattern, is that what the re-001s are? Ive had people recommend but in my opinion the 215 yre width is abit small to be running two different tread patterns, faire enough on something wider.
Does anyone know if these Re-001s are AUS made of JAP made?

Sorry just seen this. Its not more important, im just trying to weigh up if say somethings costs 400 each but you get 50k kms compared to something that costs 250 but you might only get 20k kms and the performance is not quite as good.
My mate has Proxxes 4 and he recons there fantastic, they look softish so no idea on wear yet.

Your thinking is backwards. Usually you pay more for a tyre which wears quicker but performs better.

Currently running Kuhmo KU36's, and love them to bits. Prior to this I had KU31's which I also thought were quite good, so that's why I went with the KU36's.
With the KU36's, they have quiet a bit of grip in the wet and dry... for example when I had the KU31's I use to get wheel spin all the way through 2nd gear if I was booting it in the wet. KU36's actually grip, and have traction. In the dry, once they are warm the grip from them is amazing, they just don't let up!
I've never been one for tire noise (Car has no sound deadening so I'm use to all kinds of noises), but my girlfriend said that the KU36's were actually quieter then the KU31's.
I've never used the bridgestone or Yoko's so can't comment on them. But for $190ish a tyre (225/45/17) I'll be buying them again... not that I'll need any in a while. At the moment I've driven from Brisbane to Canberra, and about 2k km around Brisbane with my current KU36's, and they still look new. I've just rotated my rear tyres to the front (Rear is running -3' camber) and the inside of the tyre is still in really good nick.

I run Potenza Adrenalin RE001's and i think they are a great tyre, wear is fairly heavy compared to standard passenger tyres but i would get them again in a heartbeat. Excellent tyre.
Also i though they performed really well in the wet... I think a Type R in the wet would outhandle most cars in the dry lol.

Where did you get that price from? I'm currently hunting around for the best price for a similar size. The Bridgestone people around my local area are quoting me ~$260-$280 per tyre so I know I'm getting jipped.

There are both Jap and Aust made. Apparently the Jap made ones are better for some reason. Diff compound maybe?

I picked them up for $205 a corner from Bridgesonte about a month ago. They were having a sale.
Just ask around. I pretty sure that KMart Tyre are willing to price match or go lower than anything u can find.

I ended up going for the falken 452's everyone seems to rate them good in reviews and at 200 they seem ok
Japanese made RE001 has the words "ADRENALINE" in caps
Australian made RE001 tyres are in upper and lower case lettering.
215/45R17 come in both Australian and Japanese made
225/45R17 are only Australian made if you buy from an Australian dealer/shop.
here's the chart to show what sizes are Australian made and which ones are Japanese made.

I just got some Nitto NT05's. Awesome performance and grip. Can't comment on wear since I just got them, but they're meant to be not that bad. :)
