unknown plastic piece on LHS strut?

ok so ive gone to get my transmission service done today and as we were going through the car and checking out everything to make sure it is fine we noticed a broken plastic piece probably the length of a pen and about nearly as thick as one that bolts onto the bottom of the strut to part of the car

upon inspection to verify i havent broken the other one the RHS does not have one?

anyone know what it is

as i want to order another one from but cant as i dont know what it is or does so dont know what its called.

i think it maybe linked to some sort of sensor or something but not sure.

any help would be appreciated.

sounds like the HID auto-leveller . There should be a small arm , and its connected directly to a pivot point on a chunky sensor too.
