View Full Version : Is $16k Reasonable For A Mint 98 VTiR?

rdster

I have an opportunity to purchase a mint condition, one owner, totally
stock standard 98 Integra VTiR, with ony 51,000km and log books for $16k.

My question is, is this a reasonable price considering the above mentioned
facts?

not worth it..

if you have that much money to spend, you can buy one with higher kms for under 7-8k and do a full engine rebuild.

Thanks for the responses, but where can I locate these mint condition, ultra low km, one owner, never thrashed, unmodified DCR2 under $16k? I have been looking for one for probably 3 years now, and they have been anything but. :(

I recently picked up a stock DC2 for 14K with 116K on the clock. I think it's a great deal if your happy to spend the money.

Good nick DC2R's are hard to find and generally still quite pricey. But I'd still choose a decent DC2R modded than pay more than 10K for a VTIR anyday. Unless you do not care for performance or you're gonna do a B20/K swap!

I might be selling mine soon.... but theres no way i would be getting 16k for it lol

vtir = vtec= thrashing required.... :)

goodluck with search, your money, your decisions.
make sure you dont stumble into any deals thinking its all sweet man,
just a heads up dc2r within the 10- 15k range, obviously will have a reason for the price being so low.
but all the best with your car hunting! (Y)

A dc2 no matter how clean or low Ks isn't worth more than 12k or so IMO.

That's abit harsh, but for the buyer, it's your money. Does it look good enough to drop that kind of money on it?

It also depends on how much you like the car, doesn't matter what others tell you. Take me as an example, back in 1998 as a young punk I really wanted a DC2. Went to the dealers, test drove them, but couldn't afford one. Repeated the same process when the DC2R came out in 2000. The dealer's sticker price for an Integra VTi-R was in the low $40,000s when new. The DC2R was about $4-5K dearer when it replaced the VTi-R. Couldn'tafford either anyway.

Then when they became cheap enough on the used market, I bought a VTi-R. I'm maintaining it and keeping it for as long as I can, just because I like it, doesn't matter what others tell me. The DC2R is sweet, but for city use, for an old fart like me it's pointless.

It's not always about money, or how much it's 'worth'. What does your heart tell you?

it's hard to decide worth based on such a personal preference. Half of this forum will tell you it's not worth it at all. I'd be inclined to agree. But at the end of the day, it is your decision. We can only guide you in a certain direction.

That being said $16,000 is a hell of a lot of money for an 11yo car regardless of kms. I'd be suspicious as to whether the odometer has been rewound. Something like that seems almost too good yknow? only 50k kms. that's less than 5000km a year..

man,
its your money, if you're happy with the car then buy it.

i would rather spend good money on an unmolested car like that dc2.

mint dc2r's for 16k? i dont know what you're meaning of mint is, but good luck to yah trying to find one. haha. fcuk all honda's have been molested some how. its harder to find a honda untouched, talking about civics and tegs of course.

You should be able to find an immaculate VTiR for like 12-13k. Average ones are like 8-9k.

If you have $16000 saved then just save the extra $4000 or so and buy yourself a well maintained, well looked after and tastefully modded DC2R. You wont be disapointed.

problem with saving the extra 4k for itr is, 4k isn't exactly pocket change for many of us. I dunno, if you just want a mint as stocker, i'd go for it. If you wanna mod, i'd go something cheaper...

buying a mint DC2 VTIR at like 12,13k is a rip of in my opinion as if u have a mod bug u will probly replace all the parts with DC2R anyway lol which could end up costing u less

I agree that $16K is a little too much. I'd say that personally, for me, $13K is the highest I'd go for a mint DC2 VTi-R.

And with low mileage cars, there is also a possibility that it's been neglected. That is, old engine oil, crumbly timing belt, has never ever been driven hard so the car's components have never been 'exercised'. I know this from experience.

I once had a nice 'low mileage' Honda a long time back. It was previously owned by a lady used only for shopping runs, and as I discovered, mechanically neglected. Not trashed, not modified, just not cared for at the proper intervals.

After two weeks of ownership, I redlined the engine once, and the thermostat packed up. Fixed it. Then the next time I redlined it, the water pump packed up. Fixed it. And the next time I redlined it again, the radiator cracked. Then found that the power steering rack was leaking, and don't even get me started on the OEM shockies that quickly lost all damping and turned the car into one big bouncy castle. The car really turned into a money pit.

It seemed that everytime I redlined the engine something would break. My theory on that car is that since it was used only by a lady for shopping runs, it was never ever 'stressed' in its entire life. So the moment I applied some stress to the car, the old, brittle components started to pack up.

My current DC2 has average mileage, but had responsible ex-owners that didn't scrimp on maintenance, and it really makes a difference.

So what I'm saying is, low mileage does not mean it will be problem-free.

Ahah! Good call on the sleeper look! Slowly fill it up with pedigree Mugen and Spoon parts, and you're good.

As for the pesky Antenna, order from here:

http://www.locustom.com/shark2_kit.htm

Some of us here did. Only cost about Au$50 including poastage, and takes 10 days to get here.

From my experience, if the car is on its original shock absorbers, swap them out as soon as you can afford to. The OEM ones are probably very worn out by now.

whats a good over all quality/performance exhaust system that would be good for street driving? Im after a full system. but dont really want to pay through the nose! something below $1000 approx would be good or there abouts. I would like the mugen twinloop muffler (or something of similar quality), as it looks good and i have heard nothing but good comments about it. I do have a family friend who will be doing my exhaust and i will be looked after, but just so i know what to look for when i head down there sometime this month.

I have searched a bit, but alot of these systems are a bit pricy for me.

yeah full exhaust, intake, cams, and a hondata tune should get her up nicely. Grab a good set of headers if ur doing some seperate exhaust buys. I personally like 5zigen. But mugen twinlooop is hella fine.
