My EG4 hatch recently died with a busted Water Pump. It's at 315k at it's well overdue (+10k) for a major timing belt change.

My question is, while my mechanic is doing the timing belt and water pump, is there anything else that should be done? Will the 'cam belt major service kit' have everything needed? I figure at 300k, there's a couple extra things that might be due.

Thanks,
Matt

Ask him to contact you if there is anything else that needs to replaced whilst he is doing the belt, might wanna get all the belts replaced while you're at it too

worth seeing if the oil pump seal is leaking as well as the sump gasket while you have ample space then :)

That's my question, what are the other belts.

From memory 2 accessory belts: p/s and air-con.

At 300000 why not just swap out the engine while your at it?

^ Because some people don't have the time or money for that.

also just another thought (as I've had to do it to mine recently) tie rod boots and tie rods in general, see if the boots are worn (ie. leaking fluid from the front) $45 a boot and $170 a rod

lol, sif change the engine or bottom end bearings if it's not needed, that's rediculous, easy get 400,000kms out of them in Northern America driving thro snow and shit, OZ is easy conditions

That's right.

Everyone just seems to jump on the 'conversion' band wagon.

i was just trying to point some things out that maybe needed replacing. i heard someone trying to do it when there car only did about 250,000 km. but i guess if they can last up to 400,000 km then its not needed, in these conditions especially.:o
