Hi all,

I'll be getting one of these new fangled TomTom iPhone car kits http://iphone.tomtom.com/en-us/

Charges iPhone
Hands free calling
Plays music via aux out
Enhanced GPS signal
Rotatable

It charges via a cable to the cigarette lighter and plays music via 3.5mm aux out.

So I need to install an aux input. I've done a bit of research and found this http://www.logjamelectronics.com/soundhonaux4.html

EDIT: Looks like what I linked above only works with "2004-2008 TSX (Must be double-DIN sized satellite-ready radio)" which we don't have.
This one which was linked in another thread here looks the goods http://indashpc.org/new/aux_adapters/car2aux-hon1.html

So is that pretty much my only option? With installation like this? http://www.beaufordbuddy.com/ipod_install_1.htm

I'd like to be able to control the iPhone music through my steering wheel controls. The honaux4 I linked above seems to require an add on to do this, but I can't use that add on if I'm using the TomTom car kit.

I'd appreciate any advice you guys have about installing an aux input and if there are other possibilities than the one I've linked to above to get this TomTom car kit working. I've got a 2006 Euro Lux.

Cheers

well CU2 model comes standard for the AUX input in the arm rest holder. The only drawback is the poor design ipod integration - doesn't like iPhone 3G.

Thought about getting the holder as well but apparently the phone has to be nekid, i.e. no covers of any sort otherwise it'd be too thick :thumbdwn:.

Yeah that kinda sucks as I'm using a rebel serpent cover, but I actually won't mind going back to naked since I'm a bit over the added thickness of the case.

You might be interested in Magellan's car kit which should be out in December. Same stuff as the TomTom but allows any case.

Details here http://www.magellangps.com/iphone/iphoneapp.asp

ETA of mid-Dec mentioned here http://appadvice.com/appnn/2009/11/magellans-premium-car-kit-dated/

I've actually got the PowerSupport case which doesn't make the iPhone too thick. I prefer to have something protecting the phone coz I reckon the back will scratch easily especially with the glossy surface.

Interesting the Magellan unit. Looks like direct competition with TomTom! I'll be watching this closely. Thanks for the link ticktock.

Well from TomTom themselves apparently it's available in AU now lol http://www.tomtom.com/news/category.php?ID=4&NID=878&Lid=8

No idea when actual stock will be available here.

I've bought mine (still on backorder) from www.shopblt.com but even they're waiting on shipments to arrive to them. I see they're not even listing the carkit any more, probably because they have so many backorders already. It was only USD$87.61 there, with shipping around USD$45. I ordered 4 with mates to save on shipping. Better than the AUD$160 it will be going for here.

It does have better GPS antenna though... the one embedded on the iPhone is just crap!
