would the evaporator be the problem for the aircon to leak as well?
and how hard is it to get to behind the dash?

changing the evaporator is an easy Job,

it lives behind the glove box like in the pic above

no you dont have to rip out the dash

- remove the battery
- remove the battery mounting braket ( 3x 12mm bolts )
- ONLY after you have had the gas removed, undo both lines going to the evaporator.
- on the inside of the car remove the glove box, ( 2x 8mm bolts )
- remove the support bar going accross the front of the Evaporator
- unplug the Thermister
- undo the two top mounting screws
- undo the two bottom mounting screws
- unto the bottom 10mm nut
- unto the bottom 10mm bolt
- pull the evapotatopr unit out.

the evaporator unit is is a compleate unit in its black plastice housing. dont try and seperate it. it also comes with the TX valve.

Thanks heaps ECU-MAN you've been great help
just one more q would the evaporator cause the a/c not to work/leak?
And would a 96 accord exi evaporator fit the eg?
I'll tell you if it works out

Hi

in the evaporator box is a very important part called the expantion valve or TX valve. It can fail and cause the AC not to work.

an Accord Evaporator will not work and yes the it can leak, just like any ac part that has a connection to other AC pipes.

So really I don't need the whole black box but just the tx valve or expantion valve

Where are you located??
was at Deer Park Wreckers on the weekend, plenty of civics there, i grab a couple small bits for my EK, went to pay and the bloke gave it all for free... Sweet

You can't use an Accord evaprator. All civic's from 92 onwards use the same evaporator though. An aftermarket evap will go for about $680 retail so try and find a 2nd hand one if you can. The TX valves can be bought seperately too. They retail for about $170. We have some at work. Would still probably be cheapest getting a 2nd hand one though.
