hi guys just picked up a stock standard 99 vtir lude..
just wondering some basic engine mods for some power increase to get started with? i know just the usual pod filter, exhaust and headers..but is there anything else worth getting done to the car?
thanks guys

in my opinion learn how to control/drive your car first. get to know the limits, then once your comfortable with then start upgrading mods. a prelude in my opinion is just a cruiser car. your not gonna be as quick/responsive as other hondas.
but to help you, basic first mods would be: upgrade air filter, exhaust, ECU, etc..

Congrats man! My gf is after one of them 5th Gen Ludes!! Share more info about it man, kms? color? manual/auto?
I reckon these ludes are the best looking from all the Lude Origins.
Show some pics dude! Pics tell a thousand words!
Anyway,
1) buy a K&N pod or flat panel for the better air intake and louder VTEC noise! Possibly a CAI [custom air intake] to go with and if you want more a heat shield around the pod!
2) Buy a cannon exhaust for better breathing and noise! It'll also make your right foot dance a little bit more.
3) Lower the car. Buying a set of king springs will be your cheapest option $300+ fitted. The lower you are to the ground, the better your traction and grip car-to-road.
I have never touched the ECU's of N/A cars because I believe N/A cars aren't made by the manufacturer [in this case: HONDA] to be re-formatted or re-brained if you get what I mean. I prefer stock standard.
Anyway, doing all this won't dramatically increase the G-Force of your car "if you want to call it that" , although it's a start and will slightly increase the performance.
Try driving a turbo eg: WRX with standard boost of 12 psi compared to a worked up STI with 24 psi. [performance = money]
In the end it all depends how much you want to spend.
Hope this information has been useful and let us know your progress! GOOD LUCK DUDE!

dont get a cannon...just useless noise. no performance gains there.
if you want a tad more power, k&n air filter, remove the resonator from behind the front bumper, 2.25-2.5 inch exhaust, header (x-force or simular brand) and a apexi vafc or neo with tune.
should get you an extra 10-15kw. not massive, but about all you can do without going more extensive and expensive.
with most hondas its not really about the power...its more the handling.
my favourate saying when v8 bogans wank on about their "v8 power" is "yeah, you can get to speed quicker, but i dont have to slow down to get a boat around a corner"
coilovers, or a nice spring and shock combo, strut tower bars, sway bars, etc. work the handling. thats where you will see the biggest difference.
my car is stock height and will outhandle most of these "there is no replacement for displacement" inbred retards due to the other components...kyb adjustable shocks, superior suspension sway bars and a whiteline front strut bar.
oh...and for all the info you could possibly ever need on preludes, join PreludeAustralia.com

thanks fellas much appreciated.
by the way its done around 150,000km which is a little high but for the price i picked it up for ($9000) off some bird i cant really complain.
of course its manual, it aint a real vtec unless its manual :)
im gonna get started with a k&n pod, ill start shopping around for a set of extractors and probaby get an exhaust at the same time.
thanks for all the info guys! :)

not a k&n pod.
just replace the panel filter with a k&n one and use the stock exhaust.
you will see the same gains as a pod (if not more) and it will look totally stock.

lol...CAI is cold air intake, not custom. heat shields are only usefull if you get an SRI (short ram intake)
2) Buy a cannon exhaust for better breathing and noise! It'll also make your right foot dance a little bit more.
canons are for noise...if you wanna breather more get full exhaust. changing the muffler wont do anything...
3) Lower the car. Buying a set of king springs will be your cheapest option $300+ fitted. The lower you are to the ground, the better your traction and grip car-to-road.
no, just no...kings are good for looks, but they arent the lowest around. and the lower you are to the ground does not mean grip. there is a small aero grip for being low but the suspension geometry effects it more in terms of the roll centre and centre of gravity, having it too low can be bad for grip.
but if you only care about looks, go for it.

aaannnddd i guess thats why tuning an aftermarket ecu in an na car can get significant gains

Yeah that hurt my eyes to read.
Joining both Preludeaustralia.com and Preludepower.com will get you everything you need to know.
As people said, buy a K&N panel in the stock intake. This will get you less shit from the cops depending on your state laws. Removing the resonator will gain you some induction noise aswell.
Extractors have a habit of reducing the power on 5th gens unless they are decent.
Freeing up the intake, getting a decent header and a full 2.25 to 2.5 inch exhaust system then a piggy back like an A'Pexi VAFC for a tune.

HAHA Good, because some people usually leave that bit out as theyre embarassed it's auto.
Anyway SHOW PICS SHOW PICS !!!!
