Hi all,
Before I begin, I did 'search' but could not find answers to my questions, so if someone could help out with a link or answers that would be great.
I unfortunetly own a civic with no power windows/ mirrors (99 cxi hatch) and would like to put these into my car. I just had a few questions:
1. Besides panels and wiring looms, what other parts will I require?
2. Besides a 99 Vtir what other years/models can I get the required parts from?
3. Can anyone suggest somewhere in Melbourne where I will be able to find parts (new and/or used)?
4. I found this link -->http://repo.jackmoves.com/album206?page=1<-- and besides the fact that it is being done on an American car, do I really need to strip my car down that much to install all of the required parts? Has someone got a diy done on an Ozzie car?
Thanks for bearing with me and I hope that someone can help.

I think the VTi models come with the power options for the EK models

Hey Zdster, im planning on doing a power window conversion pretty soon myself, mirrors may come later, its not really important to me.
99.9% sure the VTI-R, GLi, Vti, all have the same power window parts, just the door trim may be different (the vti-r is black with a nicer felt, i think) but mechanically its all the same.
So any EK power windows should fit..
Mirrors, not 100% sure, but im pretty confident its the same story. Power mirrors for all gli, vti, vti-r models would be the same on EK...
You can go to wreckers (see stick in wanted to buy thread) and buy power window parts/kits, or you can buy aftermarket power window kits (ebay, specific shops).
Like perry said, you only need to remove and replace your door trim. The wires will feed thro the grommets in the opening between the door and the body (where the speaker wires etc go).
Hope that helps, ill try and post up somethin when i get round to giving mine a go...

Thanks for the replies guys. :)
Few more questions if you will bare with me. In order to do a power window conversion I need to get the motor to raise and lower the window, the bracket the window sits in and the wiring loom. I was thinking that instead of replacing the inside door panels, that I would remove the manual winder and retrim the doors and run the controls for the windows next to the handbrake - where there are four empyty slots. What do you think of that idea (havent made up my mind that I will do that yet - was just a thought)?
Another question re what model to get parts, will parts from a coupe also do the same job? Does anyone know?
Sir JDM: I know what you mean about the power mirrors, I was just thinking that while I am doing the windows I might as well do the mirrors  .

*takes off hat to Sir JDM*
I was originally going to do the full floor harness replacement like in the first post...
So does that mean, all ill need will be;
-Power window regulators (x2)
-Door Harness' (x2)
-Power window relay
-Fuses
(-Mirrors if I do that as well etc etc)
And all of this will plug into my stock floor harness?
That would make everything alot easier.
What is the reasoning behind not using the floor harnesses then? would would you want to do that when theres a much easier way.

Sir JDM: I know what you mean about the power mirrors, I was just thinking that while I am doing the windows I might as well do the mirrors  . You wanna go commodore styles :P?
Only problem i could see with that would be the size..
Its been too long since ive sat in an EG with power windows so im not sure how big the switches are, but im not sure if they will fit in the 4 empty slots near the handbrake... unless you go custom/different switches... but yea nice uniqe idea..
Your Door trims will look a little bare tho ?
I cant say for sure, but id asume the coupe parts would fit... id be pretty confident that they would.
Yea understandable that you would want to do both while your at it, but for me its just an extra expense for that I really couldn't afford... Full time student, very low income no assistance from parents, govt etc, my project is moving along very slowly :P

I didnt really think about it like the commodore but I guess you are right. Just a thought really. Might be easier to just get the whole door panel :shrugs:.
If you need more money perhaps you could join in on the my money making scheme that I was thinking of starting - always room for one more (see introductions thread) :D .
I emailed Honda Spares about parts but no one has gotten back to me  . Anyone know of somewhere good in Melbourne to go?

When I spoke to HondWorld a few months back, they said they could sell me everything I needed (in a package). Hondworld seem to make up stock/prices as they go along though.
Give them a try though.

pm me, i have one in melb. i get parts from him too and he's very helpful.
Switches where the handbrake are would be cool... Leave the winders on too, so then people would go to wind and get no where :p "Uh... I think your window is broken... oh hey look, it moves by itself!!"
Just as an aside, if any of you guys do swap to power rear view mirrors, sell me your old ones :p Would prefer black or white... Will need the mounting piece as well as the mirror for both.

Thanks all for the help.
Anybody got any idea on what it should cost to do this setup?

StOo - power REAR VIEW mirrors? huh .. if your after my manual side mirrors when i do my swap ill be more than happy to let you have them, they're black =]
Z - Hondworld also quoted me a package for everything I need, but in all honesty double, no, triple check everything from melbourne wreckers.. from my experience.. they're all dodgy as!
Zdster - Should cost anywhere from 200-400 for parts (depending where you get it, and which parts) and depending if your going to get it done at an Auto Elec, should be about 90$ a side, or if u do it urself.. painstaking labourous hours ^_^ jk shouldn't be *THAT* hard
If anyone here does it before I do, lemme know how it turned out.. especially if ur in melb, gimme a PM n ill come see how it turns out etc.. =]

Thanks again guys, especially Sir JDM and Z.
I am keen to give this a go myself (although I am not entirely electrically minded - so I may ask a few more questions during the process).
Besides Hondworld which from what you guys appear to be saying is a it dodgy, is there anywhere else you would recommend I try for parts, especially considering I am noob in this area?
Cheers JDM, that would be great. Rear view, side mirrors... same thing right? If you think of them as being external and not internal, you should have no issues :D
Zdster, where abouts are you located? If you're in Brisbane, I can try to find the name of a place where I went to buy 2nd hand mirrors... They weren't all that cheap tho at ~$90 a manual mirror. I'd assume that the electric ones would cost even more. I was looking around the other day, and I forget the site, but some places offer new M3 style mirrors for less than it'd cost for 2nd hand stockies... if you like the aftermarket look. It'd be worth checking out anyway.

Thanks StOo but I am a little more south than you - Melbourne:wave: (although at the moment we seem to have your good weather) :) .
Really not a big fan of the M3 style mirrors that many aftermarket companies seem to be selling plus I am not sure that they would go with the look of the car.
If anyone else has any suggestions as to where to source parts in Victoria, that would be great.
For spare parts places, check out THIS (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=259) thread.
Im probably goign to give this a shot over christmas when I dont really need my car.
SirJDM- Ill PM you early next week regarding a few things (in a rush at the moment)

Thanks all for the valuable information. Just a few final questions:
Taken from Z earlier post - I need to source:
"-Power window regulators (x2)
-Door Harness' (x2)
-Power window relay
-Fuses"
As well as:
-Interior door trim (x2)
-Electric mirrors (x2)
-Some sort of wiring loom for mirrors (x2)?
-Switches for mirrors (x2)?
Is that all you think that I will need to do this mod? Is there anything else that you think that I will require?
Also can anyone link me to a diy of removing interior pieces for a 1999 hatch. I will only have to remove the door trim, dash and seats right?
I will give the places you guys rang a mention on Monday and see how I go.
Cheers

The harness' for the mirrors are part of the door harness' (I believe)

I would strongly recommand George Whinns from Imlachs of whom I got my half cut VTiR from. Hes an excellent sales representative who never fails to answer all my queries. Prices might be abit steeper but the parts come with warranty. He threw in the full power window kit for free when i purchased the half cut (I believe i'm the one Sir JDM was talking about in his previous post). Hondworld sells the full kit for a considerable amount, the last time i checked, and i heard its a dodgy place from past customers. visit www.imlachs.com.au (http://www.imlachs.com.au/) for parts enquiries.
You could search some local Melbourne stores or the ebay for universal kits which will fit into your center console.
I would post some diy pics up when i do my power window conversion. i hafta pester DCLXVI (my mate who done my engine swap) to help me with the conversion soon.:D
Good luck seraching!:)
anyone done this conversion?

Yes I also would be interested in seeing how this turns out!!
I'm very keen to giving my mirrors and windows the power option in the not too distant future!
