you COULD top up with water, but i would only do it in an absolute emergency...

THe original blue fluid is Honda collant that is designed to protect the alloy in your engine... water does not have the same properties...

The percentage of coolant already in your system vs the 100 - 200mL you will use to top up the system will be negligable. Just remeber to do radiator flushes from time to time. I do mine every 5000-7000kms. Probably overkill but cheap peace of mind.

If you top it up with water use distilled water. Normal tap water has all sorts of stuff in it.

Also you can buy a bottle of 1ltr Honda coolant for $11

Why flush your radiator every 5-7000kms? Its good for 100,000kms

Dunno. Just like to go overboard on maintenance sometimes. Not a bad thing. Just costs a bit more.

Personally, top up only with Honda coolant. That way you won't risk corrosion. Safer to spend $11 for 1L of Honda coolant than to spend hundreds of dollars replacing a radiator or much more to replace the water pump.

If you are desperate, use only distilled water like flipfire said.

Something so simple and cheap can turn into a major headache if skimped on. While you need coolant might as well replace the thermostat and do a coolant flush? lol
