Wanna get rid of the stock intake.
What would you recommended apart from
Mugen.

Is injen that great or is mugen the better option?

Any other idea, plus pricelistings would be great
Thanks!

Basically bang for bucks. I've got money ready so its juz a matter of whats best..

I have the INJEN cai in my DC5S, works well and sounds awesome! $500 from JDM Yard.

No point getting the Mugen unless you get the bonnet to go with it..

mugen one sounds pretty quiet, similar loudness as stock

Injen definitely sounds louder

Like what Mu Secret said; Mugen is not that loud compared to injen or GruppeM. With the injen, it's definately loud (Especially in vtec), even when you're driving normally <3k rpm, you can hear a more aggressive sound while you're driving...IMO go get yourself the injen (try source a 2nd hand one if you can...) and just to assure you, it's not just sound improvement...you gain decent improvement in performance as well...with such a basic/affordable mod...it's worth it

Yes, Injen def better.....even if the mugen had a mugen bar. But need to keep in mind that mugen box was not totally designed for outright power!

If you want performance and have a box style intake, then gruppem. If you just want value for money and best performance gain, then injen.

yeah go the injen...With the money you saved from buying the injen instead of the mugen/gruppeM, put it aside and use it for something else (e.g. catback, etc)...Win - Win

when u give it full throttle off the line, you can hear the roar straight away, and its more responsive

FUJITA is definately not better than the injen! and its because of the one piece design as well...this is because with the injen, you can run an RBC I/M because of the flexible rubber joint to the T/B...where as with the FUJITA, you would have to cut off the joint and use a silicon joint to join it up to the T/B :)

Nepolian
08-12-2009, 07:44 AM
Injen/Fujita are both one piece. What 2002teg was trying to say was that if you are considering using a RBC, you'd need to cut the Fujita as the initial bend from the t/b is metal where the Injen uses a rubber elbow which will flex.

injen is probably better bang for your buck as it's much cheaper. leaves a big hole in your engine bay though. I've got the gruppeM and i think the sound is pretty amazing (no whistle). but if you're on a budget i'd go for injen.

There is a risk, but dude you would need to drive the front end of your car into a lake to suck up that amount of water..

I have had my INJEN for about 6months now and have driven thru very heavy rain and gone thru a few puddles etc, and still no problems :)

INJEN ftw

Honestly... don't bother.

I ran a K&N Typhoon intake for about 6 months when I first bought my DC5R. Noise was awesome (Better then Injen Cold air intake)... but on hot days it would ping, or after an extended drive it would suffer from heat soak quite badly. The fully exposed filter sits at the back of the engine (With not that much air flow), above the fully exposed gearbox, and next to the fully exposed engine. I know the Injen one comes with a heat sheild, but you would get much beter results with any one of the other intakes mentioned in this thread.

FR33K
08-04-2010, 01:16 PM

i still cant beleive people are talking about this subject lol...how can u justify spending double the price of a injen on a gruppem when the gains are basically the same, if not more for an injen? i've been running an injen for 3 years now...and i have zero complaints....and my results speak for themselves...

Why was short ram annoying? Are they that bad?

Everyone seems to think CAI is better than Short Ram, but either side put out quite a good argument.

CAI has a long pipe going through the engine bay which will heat up the air, negating the effect of the cold air drawn in. So would short ram really be that much worst than CAI?

What about a Whale intake? I heard they sound like a crazy mother f*cker on VTECs

Short-ram without an enclosed box will suffer from alot of heat soak and hence power loss.
SRI's are typically near the engine. Soaking up all that warm/hot air near the engine.
The idea of of Cold Air Intake, as its name suggests is that it sucks in cold air, typically the pod is nowhere near the engine.
