hey guys. my fuses are blowing in my amp. 400w clarion amp with a 500w clarion sub. happened in a hot car on the way to shitknee, overheated and turned off, came back on and then turned off again, i checked and both the fuses blew, and when i tried one more fuse it blew strait away with just + and - (car was off so no remote)

the sub is not blown, but i fear i mighthave blown the amp, any ideas of what i can start diagnosing it??

i checked all wiring and its fine...i dunno whats wrong with it...

amps are bitches when they **** up lol.

Okay if its just blowing fuses its not power supply, because it IS TURNING ON it is 90% chance a wiring issue, try it in another car's system, just replace the amp and DONT PLUG any sub/speaker in just the amp itself and this time include the ignition (do it default just to be SUREE 100% lol)

If it works there, buy new wiring dont just try fixing your old one no point while your at it might aswell renew it.

if it doesnt work there, perhaps your getting the wrong fuse?

first off do yourself a favour and dont listen to the first guy, the only reason the amps fuses blow like that is theres something wrong with the amp internally, its brobably blown an output fet or something, if it was a wiring issue somewhere in the car your underbonnet fuse would most likely be blown too, i reccomend taking it to a car audio shop (one who knows what theyre doing) get them to remove it and bench test it

a wiring issue has nothing to do with the cars fuses :S i tihnk u read what i wrote wrong mate..

Often speakers/subwoofer positive negative touching each other.. it causes it to blow??.. ever thought of that..
dont go accusing me .. just cause u misunderstood me.. think before u talk buddy

like i said champ try it on another cars setup if its still having trouble take it over to... your not in sydney so im not really sure abot places in melbourne.. look for auto radio shops.. usually they fix amps, but often charge just to take a look at it -_- but yeh.. if its a amp u really like id say go for it.

i think you mis read what i wrote too... i meant the amp wiring in the car, ei- the posotive run from the battery, and no, speaker terminal wires touching (speaker + and -) WILL NOT blow fuses, it will however cause the amp to run in protection, i do this for a living buddy, if its blowing on board fuses there's a fault with the power supply or out put side of the amp INTERNALLY, if it was the wiring to the amp then the under bonnet fuse would hafe blown too poeple alwayse come on forums asking whats wrong with their amp etc... all i can say is take it to a specialist car audio shop (as in NOT jb hifi, strathfield etc) and get them to check it out for you.... otherwise you'll be going without music for a while cos you listen to people like slimx

whoa. i didnt see this. epic bump,

the wiring was fine i double checked it

the idiot i am...i realised the fuses i was replacing were 5A lower rated then what they should be, so i replaced them with the RIGHT ones this time, and the amp caught on fire :S

after pulling it out, i opened it up and found out one of the input mosfet stages was blown, but im pretty sure i can see part numbers, and i MIGHT be able to repair it :D (meh i got a useless amp atm, so i got nothing to loose)

it seems the amp just got too hot, though i dont know why the electrical protection circuit didnt kick in. it looks it dosent have thermal protection though. if i manage to repair it, im gonna need to make sure it gets better ventilation...thankfully it didnt blow my sub when it went.

damn... would been good if someone gave you some reliable advice in the first place huh? oh... hang on :P

ps- if you do fix it yourself make sure you get some of the white heat transfer paste stuff and re apply it liberally, good luck!!

well the fuses blew the first time because it was hot, it didnt have enough ventilation, so i thought i mightaswell try replacing the fuses in an environment where it wouldnt be as hot. i was hoping the heat wouldhave just made the current exceed the capacity of the fuses without breaking anything, its happened to me before....but it wasnt so. thanks anyway for the advice.

and im pretty sure i've got some of that lying around somewhere....its just a matter of finding it :S

btw, pics:
if your worried about there being no bracket...i know. i took it off to get a better look at the part numbers

I hope you can fix that. It always hurts to see burnt electronics...

one more q, do you think those resistors need replacing too, or would they have just been blackened from the fire? i have never really encountered "burned out" resistors before :S

the first one looks abit burnt but the rest are fine, might aswell replace all of them considering they are piss cheap something like 40c for a pack of 8
