Hi all,
I'm new here.
I have a 09 Euro, build date of August 08.

I've looked through the forums and it seems my problem has occured before, but the fixes described haven't worked.

My issue is a tapping sound as described by previous threads in the rear parcel shelf. It's like the sound of finger nails on metal coming from inside the rear parcel shelf somewhere. I've put WD40 on the left and right joins where that horizontal bar meets the part of the car where it is slightly obscured by the boot lining and to no avail. It's driving me nuts. AND I think I might be going deaf from the volume of music I'm listening to, to cover up the noise! Though I can still hear the noise. The car otherwise is fine. I bought it in February and it hasn't had any pinging or other mechanical noises. The car is fine apart from this incessant tapping sound from the parcel shelf.

I'm going to to take it to the dealer and ask them to sort it. I bought it from South Side Honda in Brisbane and they have been good so far, but I just want this noise gone.

Any one know how to get rid of this tapping? I saw that the previous model had the same problem, just would've thought they would've fixed it by now.

Any ideas? I have tried to put foam around the place and I'm just over it.

It's standard Euro.

I believe the noise is from a loose wire that connects to the rear parcel shelf brake light. Take it to your dealer, mine told me they had a few Euros in with the same problem and fixed it in under half and hour. They said they just used a bit of tape (sounds dodgy) but that was 6 months ago and the noise hasn't come back yet, so seems it worked!

jimboturbo, Thanks for posting. I'll follow it up.

Is this common on CU2's?

I've been reading a few other posts. I've been using BP Ultimate 98 Octane/Caltex Vortex 98 since I picked it up. I've never tried 95 octane fuel. Could this be anything to do with the non-pinging? Anyway, the dealer, Euro specialist told me to use this petrol before I even drove it off.

Nothing to do with it whatsoever. I can tell you I bought my car this year back in mid-Jan and apart from whatever crap the dealer filled it up with, my car has never seen anything less than 98 RON fuel. Same as you, my car only runs Vortex 98 (in the beginning) and now exclusively on BP Ultimate (after people's recommendation) but I still had the pinging issue. Hope I don't jinx you but I hope your's stay that way!

Well I took it in to the dealer and they fixed the noise

They pulled out the parcel shelf and put some insulation in there and also taped up some of the cables. Tightened some bolts and destressed some seams (their words). Problem fixed noise gone, no worries!

Cars back to being excellent. This dealer has my recommendation, they're always good to deal with and they didn't muck about. Wish I'd just taken it in to them 2 months ago.

Have you at any stage changed the speakers? I had this when i changed the stock to 6x9 splits.

You should have some insultation you can buy from a shop. Just look around for somthing that will cushin the rattling.. :)

Apart from some Honda/Modulo accessories I haven't changed anything on the car except the wheels.

srry to bring this thread up again but i currently have the same problem with the rear parcel shelf rattling (have had it since i got the car)...for anyone in Sydney who has had this problem and have had it fixed could you please tell me which dealer u went to get it fixed at cuz the dealer i went to for my 1000km service said they moved some stuff around in the rear parcel shelf and took for a drive TWICE and didn't hear it...and there also seems to be a plastic rattling noise around the passenger seat area does anyone know what this might be?? any help appreciated thanks.

you just have to tell them that you have the problem again. It also happen with my speakers when the sounds (especially the bass) was distorted. Put the car in the morning and when i get it back they said there is no problems with the speakers. I asked them to come to the car with me and asked them to lay down next to it to hear it. Then they said: " oh yea, there is problem". If you are disatisfied with them, go back and tell them your problem again. The rattling noise might be from speakers as i had both my passanger side speakers and bottom right speakers replaced.

You really need to take them for a drive and point out the sound. Then they can't not hear it. Once you have them confirm it you should be fine.

I had the problem with mine it did it mainly on rough roads. The dealer tracked it down to an incorrectly fitted boot spring, no problems since.

well i made a booking with another another dealer as they could give me a earlier booking date...dealer also said they might need my car for more than a day as they might have to strip the car lol...hopefully they wont have to do that to fix the rattles.

Anyways i think i have narrowed down the rattling noise on my left side near the passenger seat...i think it might be the heating thing inside the seat because i have checked all the plastics around the seat and they seem to be fairly tight.

Anyways i just have a few more questions...
1) Is there anyway to fix door trim rattle where the window control buttons are yourself??

2) Is the seat heating only meant to work when someone is sitting on it?? cuz i tried it without someone sitting on the passenger seat and it didn't work.

Any help appreciated. Thanks.

I had the same problem but only after a year and after i loaded some heavy stuff into the boot (a set of wheels including tires), during which process i must have knocked the parcel shelf.

Anyway, when i went to get my kit fitted i just mentioned that there's a tapping noise from the rear and they got it straight away - no questions or second thoughts, they just said no problems we'll get that fixed up, and what would you know, they fixed it that afternoon.
