Just thought I'd show you guys the difference, for those thinking of swapping their AUDM headers out.

The car is going into the workshop tomorrow to have the JDM DC2R cat joined to the audm B-pipe (with restriction to be removed).

See how we go for a modest exhaust upgrade. (I can't justify spending $1300 on Todas although i'm sure they fully kick arse 360 degrees over)

AUDM is the fugly skinny mofo. JDM one is the handsome thickass mofo.

My original goal for this project was to keep everything as OEM as possible for legality and insurance reasons, exhaust noise and fitment.

So the car went to the exhaust shop and had the OEM AUDM ITR B-pipe modified to suit the JDM DC2R cat. the outlet of the cat was only 2", so it wasn't as highflow as I was expecting.

This is what the exhaust shop did as per my instruction.
- lengthen the b-pipe by removing the restriction and creating a new peice with new flange.
- chopped the restrictive cat outlet to the diameter of the nice wide pipe.

All welded quite beautifully. Very impressed with their work.

For those in Melb, give Performance Exhaust in Ringwood a call for your customised exhaust needs.

And the pictures...

Thoroughly impressed with their craftsmanship.

As for power increase... I can't say its WOW or OMG.. but I have noticed that the car revs ALOT free-er compared to before.. there is more low to mid torque, and pickup in 2nd gear is faster. Generally, it doesnt lag as much and there is more oomph down low.

Vtec will always be vtec, but off vtec there is definitely an improvement. I havent done any dyno runs.

As for Return On Investment (ROI), the headers were $400, Cat $130 and welding $120, totalling $650 (which is half the price of a brand name header), all mated to a stock itr catback (which i think is quite high flow and efficient) and sounds great.

If this was a final step in exhaust modification, then i'd say the power gains are worthy of $400 of expense, but not the full $650. I'd be more inclined to be using these headers + cat setup as a intermediatory step towards a true performance catback, not the stock ITR catback.

Possibly invest in a aftermarket cat with greater outlet size as well.

Tomorrow, i'll be cleaning up the jdm heatshield, repainting that high temp black and then re-install.

At which then comes to the conclusion to modification of this vehicle of mine as I have done all I wanted to do to it.

Thanks for reading.
