my mate owns an 05 mini cooper s jcw (john cooper works). its teh 1.6l supercharged one.
anyway, at teh track his car walks mine fairly easily. pulls on me from 80km, and his launches r pretty good as well. i had 2 people in the car however, so that probably made the difference, well thats what im telling myself

my car is a ek with b18c, xforce loop cat back, hi flow cat, kn filter, everything else stock.
kiet did the build on this car as it was his old one, its not his crazy engine however, just a std b18c.

so besides headers and intake, what else can i do thats reasonable? i know some sort of management would be good, but give me tips on what stuff i should be looking for, brands etc, and why
cheers

Ecu, tuning, light fly (do clutch as well). Better tyres, light weight parts, list goes on and on.....

And you have two people in the car at the Track?

*cough track* is what he prob means.

2 people in the car makes a big difference. Thats like an extra 100+kg

try to have a run with jst u n him no passengers....

hey, i try to tell a story about the track and all i get is people hassling me about having 2 people, he was taking pictures, or something.
anyway, the car is a daily, so any mods like cams etc that make it harder to live with isnt something im after.
interested in ecu, whats good out there.
it already has a lightened flywheel, revs very freely

A supercharged Mini is a quick car isn't it? Just supercharge your Civic and then see how you go? <lol>

- Take the other two dudes out
- ECU/tune
- Better rubber

Otherwise go internal

easy just get out your "Car: evolution 9" and teach him a lesson

yellows2k
05-12-2009, 08:56 PM
wasnt driving the evo9 that day
i didnt say teh b18c was the quickest, i assumed that being so similar in power ~145-155kw, that it should have been closer, and teh mini is a lot heavier as well

Your years-old standard B18C will probably be pulling around 100kw atw (at most) so there's a pretty big difference in power.

get rid of your gay x force twin loop for starters
and get decent exhaust and headers

get some good coilovers, brakes too while your at it

b18c is only 125kw standard not around 150kw like you said

if you spent the same was what the cooper works mini is worth it will be the other way around for sure

dougie_504
05-12-2009, 09:10 PM
Not to mention he'll be getting his supercharged power of a much bigger rev-range, whereas your's will be peaking really high...

i always thought the manufacturers claim was 141kw.
as far as the car goes, i bought the car as is, i didnt specifically ask for xforce twin loop.
what headers should i be looking at then?
the car has teh itr 5 lug conversion and brakes already

i already know that the mini is worth a lot more, in fact the guy bought it new for about $65k, and its worthabout $35k nowadays.
anyway, moving in the right direction with proper advice

you have the aussie b18c7 type r motor

even still i dont think its the car if you have this motor in ek

as i have driven a cooper works and i would say it is faster

Zilli

race him with only you in the car, and only him in the car...

then come back and tell us that you kept up with him. Your comparing a new 50k car with a 10k civic...

dont mean to be rude, but this is reality...

yellows2k
05-12-2009, 11:06 PM
i dont really care that he beat me, i know the 2005 cooper s jcw is pretty quick, i just thought that a ek (lighter shell than mini) with a itr motor might be at least as quick as it, but he kept pulling and pulling. i didnt look like i was going to reel him in anytime soon.

no one is being rude, i basically started the thread to ask for some suggestions on what can be done, reasonably to up the power that i already have.
so far we have ascertained that the xforce exhaust is shit, but seeing as i didnt pay for it (car came with it) im not complaining as it should be better than stock.
the motor is healthy, kiet did the work and it came up well.
it has a hiflow cat, and all else is stock.

im not one to race the car a lot, its a daily driven car, but its also a project that i like to add pieces to now and then. whilst keeping it livable and useable.
anyway, cheers for the replies

Mate your civic got owned by torque look for a decent 4-2-1 header + exhaust and short ram or cai if you got the cash an ecu or just a vafc will give your tuner something to work with not much but.
But don't underestimate suspension tuning and grippy tyres plus ek's are heavy put your b18 in an eg chassis= more track fun lol

the thing about hondas is the difference in weight. when your addding two extra people your basically saying good bye to your weight difference. especially if u have fat c*nt friends.

Zilli
06-12-2009, 06:41 AM
well then you just need to throw money at it then mate... and try and make it all as even as possible (i.e. same number of people in each)

Just reminding all you lads that any talk fo street racing will lead to this thread being locked

Cheers

Easy. Put 50k into your 2k POS civic and youll beat him. Id rather drive a hot looking, luxury, supercharged mini than a civic though

http://www.dragtimes.com/2005-Mini-Cooper-Dyno-Results-Graphs-11754.html

take a look at were in the range this guys making his peak torque!
Yeah it's a dyno jet but still it's got big balls down low

150KW JCW cooper @ 1130KG kerb weight (omitting driver weight)
VS ---KW EK Civic @ 1062KG kerb weight + 1 other person(85KG) = 1147KG
(omitting driver weight)

The Mini has approx. 240 NM of Torque where as the ITR Engine has 178 NM

No chance of catching the mini...

Would suggest FI and sussy mods to help on launch i.e. to keep traction over the front wheels on launch.

oongie, shooosh, its more fun watching him TRY and catch the Mini.

Can we get some video?

lol, new mini's kick some serious a$$ :) alot of nice examples in Brisbane going well

will take some good funds to beat a sc mini, like induction of some description he will always have more torque than you

buy some new tyres, suspension, then a greddy kit

RiceMeister
07-12-2009, 02:02 PM
invite him back to the track and bring the evo9?

Limbo
07-12-2009, 02:30 PM
boost the little civic, that will put them into the same class.

N/A vs Boosted is always hard.
Takes alot of $$$ to make an n/a as quick as a FI car
