hi everyone~ i just wonder how to gain more torque at low rev with my EG? i just feel like my acceleration is so slow, i recently replaced the full exhuast system, header, catback 2.25 and 4' tips muffler with silencer, i feel it slower than the time i got the stock exhuast on it~ anyidea??

sorry for my lack of english~

What engine do u have? Any what size is your exhaust?

Smaller piping diameter of exhaust should help.

Now it probably feels slower and less accel than stock exhaust cause with bigger piping diameter you're losing alot of back pressure.

Try a smaller diameter exhaust.

sorry to say, but the exhaust mod you have is really a downgrade from stock.
For 1.6 lt NA engine, 2.25 is really too big.
The exhaust pulses are bouncing in the exhaust pipe because they are too small for the pipe.
If you are planning to turbo your engine, then it's OK.
Try to keep the header, and replace the catback back to stock.

do research on exhaust pulse. What you want is for the pulse to go straight in the pipe, so that it will help pulling out exhaust gas from the engine.

Depending on which honda you have :)
And based on your experience, would you still think 2.25 is good?... kidding.
for 1.6 lt, 2" is the best bet.
Those 2.25" is more likely for bigger engines or turbo.

60mm is 2.362" which I will moving upto with my d16y4 auto.I have been using a 2" system for 4 yrs.I will be installing a bisimoto stage 1 camshaft and have I/H/E slightly bigger throttle body (bored out maye from 56 to 59mm) and aftermarket intake manifold.I wouldn't go bigger than that.I probably will buy the skunk 2 megapower exhaust system, from the headers back,it's 60mm.

2inch is a good upgrade on a d series, but the fact is, your not goner really get any performance out of a d series. unless you get a bigger displacement engine or turbo it the d15/16 wont give you any thrills.

get shorter gear ratios :D.

2 1/4 IS GOOD FOR A B16, A D16 2" is fine.
with fairly stock engines. Go 1/4 up if more mods done

On boost at least 2 1/2 to 3"

AHhahaha I LOVE IT!

The consistant and never ending lines of text like above LOL

I get a thrill from my d16 daily.I love it and I dont have the need to go bigger, that's unique :D

it might just feel slower because now u can hear how hard u are driving it

so if i want to gain more low torque, the only way is to mod the exhuast piping? or still other way i can go for??

Check this (http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=113190&highlight=simple+mods+gain) list out of things you can do to get your engine running 100%.I have done all this and no longer want a conversion,I love my engine now!

But don't use crap carby cleaner, use suburu upper engine cleaner!

They're right - D16Y* go 2" exhaust

Maybe D16A8 DOHC non-vtec you could try 2.25 but I still think 2" is best

B16~ go 2.25"

i was planning on 2.25 for my b16, will be ideal everyone so far has told me?

OMFG i cant believe no mods have posted to do a search HAHAHA.

2" good for SOHC's
2.25" good for B16A/B18C2
2.5" good for B18C-R/B20's

but the whole backpressure issue has gone round in circles ever since there was motors HAHAHA.. but IN MY OPINION you can run a motor off the header and the throttle response and top end is great - u might sacrifice some low-down torque but tell me when on the track or in a race situation are you at low revs ?? that's right.. never !!

low revs for daily driving YES !! and this is where the smaller diameter exhaust will help scavenge torque down low.

there are so many factors in this debate - which engine, which header/stock, what fuel, throttle position etc...

FYI i ran a 2.5" mandrel bent exhaust on my D16Y1 in anticipation of B16 swap. I ran the exhaust on the SOHC VTEC for about 2 weeks before my swap and yes it DID loose power below 2,500RPM.. but it GAINED a lot of power over 4,000RPM.. and from 1500 RPM to 4,500 it revved through a lot faster - so it got to the powerband faster.

this was not that great for street but it definately gave more power.

then after the swap I changed to Spoon 60mm (2.33") exhaust and it definately gained power over the entire rev-range and regained some low-down torque but didnt sacrifice any top end. so IMO you wouldnt want any smaller than 2.25" on a DOHC VTEC motor.

So true ryan, make the whole car feel like 1,ya gotta find that perfect balance of everything power, handling, feel (seat, steering wheel).

I feel I am so close to achieving this! Stoked.Just change the shocks, rear rotors and pads, bisi stage 1 cam.I've bought all these parts and this will be the last of 'modding' :)

I know the feeling Brett, so far Im doing the bushes and steering recon atm on mine (rack ends had alot of play)

then working on the bracing under the car, put the EM1 sway on the market to buy a smiliar setup to yours

brakes, suspension, better rubber

Awesome Ryan, your onto it mate, the complete package!!

My car feels real good but with the above it should feel exactly how I want it.

I would recommend talking to Adrian or Ash from Toda Racing. They have increased the torque massively in my car. Max torque comes in around 2600rpm and holds flat till 9000rpm.

Have you done your intake as well?
If you increased your exhaust diameter, you should do your intake as well because it needs to breathe more because your car is shitting out fumes more quickly to the point of your intake not being able to keep up.

Also depends on the type of header you used as well... some headers increase high rev ranges(4-1) and some increase your midrange/high rev range 4-2-1.
Most mods increase your peak power and how quickly you can get there which makes the car quicker in terms of max POWER, but not driveability.

Only thing that worries me is is u wrote Suburu cleaner when the spelling is Subaru, or am i wrong and there is a Suburu product?
