hi i've been having this problem for a little while now

whenever i start up the car, and i put it in reverse it makes the really bad crunching sound as if i havent got the clutch in...but obviously i do..

it really shits me...

can anyone tell me what this is caused by?

edit: it happens about 50% of the time i start my car up

same here. pretty sure its just cuz reverse dosnt' have synchromesh. It even mentions this in the user manual. Says if you can't get it in put it into another gear then try. I guess the older it gets the worse the problem would get? My mums 1.5 year old pulsar does it something chronic aswell. I can deal with it in my 10 yr old car, but as you can imagine its damn annoying in the new pulsar. The dealer can't/won't do anything about it either.

yeah thats right, reverse gear has no syncro and its just two straight cut gears pushed into mesh, thisgs that can cause the crunching are
- revers gear teeth where mesh ocurs are worn.
- revers/5th shift fork bent
what your can do to stop crucnh

- take foot off brake pedal when selecting revers,
- like above, select another gear then try revers again
- change tranny oil
- rebuild gearbox
