Sick and tired of those povo Super Cheaps floor mats that never fit correctley?

Hope this may help a few of you out.

Go to your local automotive rubber supplies and choose an appropriate rubber to make your mats. I went to Bill Thompson Auto Rubbers (http://www.autorubbers.com.au/) and picked up some rubber. You can buy it by the metre, costs between $25 - $35 depending on what rubber you choose.

You will need the following:

- Large and small scissors
- Chalk/White marker

Borrow some mats off your mate or use your existing carpet mats to transfer the shape onto the back side of the rubber mat.

Once you have traced the pattern onto the rubber mat use scissors to cut out the mats, be careful to take your time. Once you have cut them out fine tune your work by trimming.

*IMPORTANT* Rubbers stinks and will give you a headache, way worse than "New car" smell. So using some strong kitchen/bathroom cleaner and warm water srub the mats and leave them to dry in the sun for a few days. This will remove the awful smell.

Had mine in for a few days now and they are great. Cheap and fit much better than those from Super Cheap Auto.

I did this to my Golf but will be done on my Honda asap.

Just a question why would these mats work better than any other rubber mat you'd find in the store?
thanks

I found that a lot of the rubber mats found in Super Cheap did not fit nicely to my floor. So I made my own...

Awesome work right there!

Custom mats are the shiz! You have cut them really well by the looks of it,they wrap and fit nicely, easy to just lift out and give it a shake and the best part is if you do it carefully, you dont get rocks/sticks/leaves on ya carpet, therefore less vacumning :)

I had custom mats for 4 years but recently took them out for weight saving,I'm making her as light as possible.

Great DIY :)

Mine didn't come with OEM mats =( Nor did my EG.

Honestly, if you cut it perfectly, I think this is much better than the Repco mats. Especially how the Repco mats often move forward and end up getting stuck on the clutch, etc.

Going to do this when I have a bit of time.

Like many other my car did not come with OEM floor mats. So it was a case of making mu own.

These cost around $25 where as a geniune set costs up to $200. Im a povo uni student like many others on here so it was a case of little budget and most improvement.

When I purchase the rubber they had black, navy blue, light blue, green, red and yellow. The colours where around $15 more than the black rubber per metre.

Be careful with some of the cheapest Supercheap Auto "rubber" mats .(or any cheap rubber for that matter.) I purchased some for my tow car (Toyota Hilux twin cab) and the mats curled up on a hot day and threatened to become entangled in the pedals. While I am sure Supercheap sells better mats the ones I bought are a safety issue and should not be sold.

$9 Repco floor mats FTW lol they slide around like crazy I've had one hold my accelerator down before so they are dangerous guys. This is a great DIY!

Guys I have a further suggestion. Instead of using rubber, go to Bunnings and buy some carpet runners. Look in the carpet section, then come in rolls that are 1 metre wide. get 2.5 metres and that's enough to cover a whole car.

Be sure to get the tough carpet weave that comes with a rubber base. It's only around $13-17 a metre, so it isn't really expensive but looks awesome once in place. But of course the driver side mat will wear out eventually.

This is what it looks like in my car. It's abit dark in there but you get the idea:

Seen dinorider's mats in real life, they look awesome! It's like there's nothing there!

The cutting and shaping of the mats is so precise... +1 rep
