So the air con no longer feels as cold as it once did :(
can anyone tell me what needs to be done to rectify this, and typically how much it would cost.
cheers

Firstly, you need to find out what has gone wrong. Check these:
1) Is the compressor running?
2) Is the compressor clutch engaging?
3) Is there sufficient refridgerant (look through the glass view window on the A/C line)?
4) Has the weather been extra hot that your A/C doesn't feel as cold anymore?

Yup, it is just behind the driver's side headlight. Follow the silver A/C piping and you'll come to a small glass window.

my air con finally broken down. got problem last year, sometime it works, sometime didn't pump any cold air. the specialist told me my car a/c compressor clutch not engauge and not working as well. also the condensor have blocked. need replace.
He quote me $1800 for replace a new system. and a new compressor (better brand - will ask what brand and let you all know). He said EURO have similar compressor with CRV. and they are shit brand.
He will put a filter or something to avoid the condensor blockage and it will keep the compressor longer life. He said the new system won't have the same problem again.
I talked the guy from AUTOCOOL (Perth). People told me they are very good and reliable. but the cost is dear.
Please advise me if any other place for repair the air con. or where can I get better parts?
Thanks

If you want to fix it on the cheap.. Wrecker is always the best bet... but will only be a matter of time,
Mine works, but still makes a dying pig squeel at the lights

You'll find out soon enough..
When the compressor clutches in while your at the traffic lights stopped, it makes a squeel that makes your car feel like it's worth $1500 to you and your passengers..
This is another one of my pet hates of the car, that you have to live with as it's too pricey to fix..

Sure it's not belt slippage causing the squeel?

Sounds more like your accessory belt needs to be replaced. I just replaced mine at 80,000km (it was not squealing, but more of a precaution). Just check the belt rib condition and also check the position of the belt tensioner.

belt is fine and is tensioned up fine, it was changed at 60k according to the service manual for the same issue..... it does the standard squeel that the euro's with the faulty valve do..
it's different to a belt squeel.. this is the squeel of a garbage car..

Ah, so it is the thermal expansion valve squeal.
Not the compressor clutch itself.

Correcto-mundo!
I take solace in knowing that the new Mazda 3's all have the same issue also!:D

The expansion valve might come from the same supplier (Denso). :p

Is it a big job / hard to get to?
I can see this as the valve costing $0.80 but the labour costing $800.00

Yeah, it is labour intensive since you need to remove the refridgerant, remove part of the dash to access the A/C components hidden behind it.

Isn't the valve a part of the compressor? Man I can swear the squeel sounds like it's from the passenger side at times.. And nope it's not my mrs.. I tried shutting her up, those valves don't exist

No it isn't. It is located behind the passenger side of the dash, where the cooling fins are.

Probably mould growing in your A/C. http://www.ozhonda.com/forum/showthread.php?t=87104&highlight=aircon+smell

No wonder why I can hear it there!! I have the mechanics manual for the car which I'll consult on how to get to.. So I can fix it the wog way.... With a hammer.
As for smells.. Check your polen filter as it may have accumulated water in it, and check your air intake vents in the engine bay areas for leaves / water etc..

All cars these days are the same. built to a budget. Even Germans cars are the same. Besides... when come to it. All the cars today are "Made in China" one way or another.
Liberty aint gonna be any better, you'll just be taking on the extra liability of the AWD system shi**ing itself when you hit a pothole....
