Hey :o

I'm new to Honda, although my family isn't, 2 of my uncles love them.

With a recent job change, and just coming out of university. I had to purchase my first car. Didn't want to spend much more than $5000 to get one on the road. I'm 21 but have never actually needed a car. Been borrowing my dads, the 4x4 or the Commodore. But now I need something economical to get around town, to the station, or even to run around the city.

So I picked up a really tidy EK1 Civic, only 170k on the clock. Its in great condition and was owned by an old couple. The interior is like new, exterior has vague evidence of paint fade on the rear bumper, but what can you expect from a 13 year old car!

It was the best runabout I could find within driving range (of my mates crappy Barina lol)... needed something fairly reliable to do a couple of freeway runs a week. Its nothing special, only a CXI, but it has air-con which will be nice here in QLD.

I'm unsure if I'll go nuts modding it, probably a new stereo and wheels first, I hate hub caps and cassettes :p My dad did up Torana's so he knows a fair bit and can help. I might lower it a little, change the air-intake and exhaust for some simple mods if I have money to blow next year.

Might post here later, it would seem I'll probably be chasing a drivers side mirror, the car itself is fine... but the mirror has been whacked in its life and the owner has glued it back together! I'd just be after a standard black one...

My main to-do:
- Find a drivers side tail light door (missing)
- Decent 15-16" wheel/tyre package... nothing too expensive.
- Possibly lower it over the new wheels...

Other auxiliary things:
- Install 2" exhaust system, change the air intake.
- If I still like the car enough, a respray of the fading panels...

Welcome mate. Good to see another Brizzy honda owner. Keep and eye out for any events that may pop up. Where about in Brizzy are you?

I'm up Bribie way, it really needs a good dose of TLC, after closer inspection. I have found that the cap for the bolts on the rear vision mirror is missing, must have dropped off in the heat, and drivers side mirror is definitely in need of a replacement.

Other than that I needa spend a weekend on it and polish it all up, re-spray the wipers etc. Will definitely get a new stereo and a decent set of wheels soon, hub caps suck and I had trouble changing the radio from 97.3 :p Its done less K's than all of the other cars in my family which is pretty awesome.

Can't go play now as there is a pretty substantial storm :(

Posted around the forum a bit, getting there with it now, the interior is close to what I am comfortable with... considering a steering wheel cover though, even with the sun protector I got in and cooked my hands today.

I put up a to-do in my main post, will see if I can knock things off that list, probably in that order.

At the moment it isn't really worth a photo, not until I actually do something substantial! Everyone knows what a mildly faded red Honda EK looks like!

Manual unpainted (black) mirrors on my CXi. Contacting wreckers and checking the forum here.

Getting there with the maintenance and detailing, its looking 100x better now, luckily I could see the potential in the paint work and messy interior!

Previous owner told me he had a leaky battery, it has a brand new battery now, hasn't done any damage to the firewall (checked when test driving) but the mount has a build up of white corrosion, gonna grind the crap off and spray it black so it doesn't get nasty on me.

I am getting to know the car now, previous owner was NOT a clean freak like me, I don't think the oldies cleaned the interior a day in its life. Nothing too nasty, foot well had some encrusted mud which I removed with fabric cleaner and just general build up of dust all over it, seats are like new though.

Also picked up an entry level Alpine stereo and all speakers for $360, $310 if you count my gift voucher! JB has 30% off plus the bloke added in some discounts and threw in speaker wire!

Pictures coming soon, I now have a camera!

Got hold of a replacement mirror from yellows2k, and I have a cap for my rear vision mirror mount coming from someone else.

Only part missing at the moment is the door for the drivers side tail light access.

Also have to fix a now sagging bumper, some moron bumped me at the station last week!

I wasn't going to put wheels on it, but now I think I will for resale. This car has to get me around until I can afford something more substantial, so I need to make it look a bit more manly!
