im getting about 250kms of full tank at the moment. never paid too much attention until i was reading about others getting 450 - 500 kms and dropped my jaw to the floor.

spoke to my mechanic and he said that engine is running rich, he checked one of the spark plugs and the tip is covered in black and that it isnt supposed to be so (not exactly sure about this). he said it could be the o2 sensor as well.

i have a simota whale penis + air filter, stock cat, custom 2inch exhaust b-pipe and an xforce twinloop muffler. no other engine mods.

i DO drive hard, and ive noticed that i use more petrol when i floor it (pretty obvious), but i could probably hit 300k if i drive properly throughout. never saw a black/white smoke coming out of the exhaust and if there is my mates wouldve probably seen it and told me.

we did a reset on the ECU by pulling the neg battery terminal on friday, so i'll try to get another figure for my next fill up. but in the meantime..

help anyone??? :(

change o2 sensor and see how it goes.....

it could be fuked and giving wrong readings to ecu...

^^ I would do that too.A bosch one is about $100.The only way to get your engine running 100% though is to do EVERYTHING,here's a list of things I did to my y4:

check your plugs hav the correct gap and correct plugs for ur car.. check the timing also. maybe clean ur throttle body and clean ur pod then if it still runs rich then start replacing things.. as most common running rich things are simple and most dont need to replace anything

I'd definitely want to check the timing (ignition and cam). Good luck with it.

hmm, i filled up $20 worth of petrol the other day, went around mt dandy and had to pick up cousins from the airport and clocked 200kms with some petrol left. full tank is normally $35 on 125 - 130 cents.

this was from resetting the ECU only. ill wait a few more weeks and we'll see what happens.

thanks for all the inputs guys, just that i wont have time to do all them until after mid jan most likely, too busy atm =\

When you fill up, reset your odometer, and ask for the receipt.

As long as you fill it next time, you have:

1) The amount of petrol used
2) the amount of KM's you've done

So then you can find out what your actual fuel consumption is in L/100kms.

same thing happened to me, my spark plugs were covered in this soot stuff... changed the plugs, petrol and oil filter... use to get 300 a full tank, now i'm averaging between 420-460 a tank....

it's not accurate to say i got xxxKM from a tank...you might be filling up to full with the guage exactly on E but there is actaully 10 litres remaining or someone else might fill up full with 1/4 left on the guage...how do we know?

you need to know the distance travelled and the exact litres used...so next time you have a full tank reset the trip meter...when you need to fill up to max again take note of tripmeter kms and how much you fill up.

in my bb6 when the guage hits Empty, tripmeter hits 500km and the petrol light comes on i know i can still drive another 150km safely.

damn. maybe it is solely from the way i drive..

anyway i did a full tank with bp 98, did 60 kms and fuel gauge went down by like a radian.

we'll see what happens, but yea i will try to accurately measure the kms per litre from now on.

could it be that my fuel gauge is fked too? cus i noticed sometime that wen im going fast downhill the gauge moves up and when i hit flat ground it goes back to wehever it was initally.

on another note. happy christmas everyone!!!

Meh, the float that is in your fuel tank (which gives your gauge it's reading) will generally move up and down as you go around long bends or up/down hills.

I know mine's F'd though, when i fill the tank it doesn't quite get to F, and i can drive it way past the red and still have 20L in the tank lol.

Merry xmas.
