Hi guys, i purchased myself a new HU and was wondering if i needed a harness? if so what type? :S
Also, On my stock HU the antenna only extends when in radio mode and will retract when not in radio(CD or off), can it keep it like that on the new HU? Its a Alpine btw, and car is EK
thnks guys

If you're looking for the common Aerpro harnesses, you need two.
1. Honda to ISO standard.
2. ISO standard to Alpine.
In Melbourne I've found that Autobarn usually carry the best variety of audio harnesses.
You can wire the Honda harness plug straight to the Alpine plug, but I got the two instead as it was simple plug and play and less fiddly.
The remote antenna is controlled by the blue wire on the ISO standard plug, and yellow/green wire on the OEM Honda harness. Unfortunately you most likely can't retain current antenna power settings.
OEM head units are programmed to send power to the antenna only when the radio is on. Most aftermarket radios use the remote power wire (blue one) to power both the antenna and turn on any remote amplifiers. So when the unit is on, the antenna will go up regardless of what you're listening too.

When I put an Alpine unit into my EG I went and bought two Aerpro harnesses, after fiddling around I realised somehow the two weren't going to work.
So I ended up combining the Alpine harness and one of the Aerpro harnesses but I had to cut and solder them together.
You could probably splice a switch into the wiring so you can retain that feature.

Ray, some headunits enable you the feature to have aerial up only when radio is on. I know the Sony ones allow this.
Even better if the HU has two blue remotes, one for amp and the other for aerial. Some makes decide to combine these (??)
Harness is handy and i would also have a look on eBay, but in the end, i just cut the factory harness and use spade connectors from that to the Alpine harness. I figured i'd never reuse the factory HU again anyway.
Soldering takes more effort , hence the connectors which work a treat and allow for easy HU changing in the future.. make sure they are the insulated type. i.e. have a little cover over the female connector.

yeah i would just cut of the factory harness of the original HU since your not going to use it again, just use insulated bullet or spade connectors to make the joins its much easier than soldering.

I solder my spade plugs, just personal preference.
