KYB Gas Shocks are meant to be a stock replacement for the stock shocks. My old shocks had 120,000km's and 14 years on them.So for $400,I went for these and they feel Great  Much firmer than the old ones but not stiff or anything like that, just comfortable.Say for example when the car would drop into a dip,no longer does it want to bottom out,it's nice and solid, feels awesome.Great in the corners,I'm super happy.Plus there is some clearance there as I drive in the bush a bit, sometimes dirt roads.
The King lows have 20,000km's on them and are a great match to the KYB's.
So this is how it sits on my 96EK1 Sedan:

great choice Beeza
lookin' good. Might be time to give the rims a lick of paint, or do you like them like that?

From that angle I understand but, well, maybe I'll think about it...I do love the 15's.

How much do you think will the 16" fill out the gap?

The only way an EK can pull off 15s is if its dumped to the shithouse

what size tyres are on it?

Good stuff beez, finally got rid of those stock shocks eh. Good to see you are happy. Would be good to have it sitting a bit lower, but sounds like you wont be doing that

Agreed with trism

215/45/15

I know what ya mean and that's why it sh!tted me having that gap there but I need the clearance, being out in the bush.

I have smashed my headers and had the gaskets replaced 5 times now.I'm over it.Maybe I need 16's to fill the gap out?

Thanks Alexx,yeah I finially made a decision :p

And I'm just so happy,I truely am,couldn't be happier,so the patience paid off in the end mate

The good thing is,the longer ya wait, the more ya get accustomed to how it is,so when ya do change it,it's just such a good change/improvement!! ;)

Patience truely is a Virtue.

Been on the tyre calculator:

http://www.tyresite.com/tyrecalc.asp

So I am looking at diameter to 'fill out' the gap!

ATM - 215/45/15 is what I have and the diameter is 575mm.

What is the 'normal' size tyre for a 16" rim - 215/55/16 or 215/50/16?

205/45/16 for civics

Go with 205/50/15 next time you change tires, they are a bit taller than 215/45 and will 'fill the gap' a bit more.

Cheers Alex,does 205/55/15 look silly?

Yea 205/55 will look like a tractor tire and throw your speedo out a fair bit. Go with 205/50 for sure

Thanks brotha!

205/50/15 = 586mm diameter

atm it's 575mm,so it's only 5mm either side but I can imagine it would fill it out enough to help hide the gap.

It looks like the best option atm

When U put in 215/50/15 it says the diameter is 596mm.

Why would going a little wider increase the diameter? Is there something obvious I am missing or is it odd..

i think the height doesn't look too bad

i think the height doesn't look too bad

Yeah,I'm happy with it,definately!!

If I can fill the gap out a lil',it would be sweet. It dosen't worry but :p

I don't wanna go any lower, that's forsure. The height is perfect.

Alexx

The profile is a percentage of the width, hence why the diameter increases as the width increases for a constant profile

You are correct, 205/50 will not fill the guards completely, but don't go any higher on the profile, it will look stupid.

215/50 is an expensive size and hard to find in aus, don't bother with it.

Best way to get rid of the gap if thats what you are after, is go with 205/50 and lower it a little bit more. But yea you wont do that haha

beeza
21-12-2009, 07:38 PM
haha, yeah.Like, ideally I want too but it just isn't practical but that's fine,I like having a bit more room under there, then I can relax when I drive and not be looking for every bloody knook and cranny in the road! :)

Thanks mate,sorted! Stoked! 205/50/15's next!

Like what? the paint has come off the lug nuts a bit and needs a quick spray..
it may just be the pics but the black appears sort of faded to me. I'd go for a gloss black, but as I said if you like it just stick with it.

beeza

Yeah,it's not faded,it might just be the light or dirt..I've been using primer, model paint and a small brush to fill in the paint chips and I've been just spraying the middle part with satin black spray paint when it chips or when the lug nuts get taken off as it takes the paint off.

I just can't justify $180 for rays lock nuts,even $80.Fark that!
