hey guys, have a b18c2/b20b8 in my car, when the car is on idle, the rev will go up and down like 1k rev - 2.5k rev constantly, have already tried changing the idle motor, but no luck, does anyone know what else could it be? will be doing the fit valve soon to see if it'll solve the problem, if anyone knows the trick to fix it, let me know please>< also got a code 36 when doing ecu check

pretty sure all hose are plugged in, will double check, but yeah code 36 is like traction control? weird><

just checked this car and there appears to no be a charcoal canister at all. The Fuel vapour return is cut off lower in the engine bay , no canister and the TB connection is missing (from the charcoal canister) too.

Cause the ECU gets hot maybe... have u seen the weather lately it's crazy!

although not very knowledgable - i doubt its the heat,,, id suggest obviously something has changed overtime causing the ecu/and other componants to act differntly ( ie idle hunt) this could be perhaps fluids that have gone to places ( that they should have) over time or to a certain level?
just a stab in the dark.

i think its the ecu ben, someone is coming to have a look for me tomorrow. another problem has occur just then today, seems like the car is not engagin vtec when i hit 5.5k rev which at first when i got it it did, i chucked my pod filter away and put ben's one on, maybe the vtec is engaging but just too soft after i changed from pod filter? and there is oil leak whenever i hit vtec (well before today) its under the vtec solenoid near where the gearbox is, is it the vtec solenoid? or its something else? oils is not dark/black at all so i dun think its engine oil nor geabox oil><

While heat transfer is a very real issue with all parts - ive never heard of heat affecting a ECU in anyway.
Excessive heat can , affect various sensors or gaskets or fluids tho !
Another thing Jeff. I noticed there is alot of dodgily taped-together wires around the engine bay , its possible heat maybe altering these connections.
Also try a know compatible ECU and see if that might work

leak is oil leak from upper head or VTS gasket or distributor o ring. Not relevant to this issue

so its just ur filter is making the vtec noise not loud at all?
bennjamin

so its just ur filter is making the vtec noise not loud at all?
yup because its a oem itr box. It still should give some sort of cross over noise tho. Change back to the pod if u can and see if there still is any difference

Have you tried another ECU yet? I've seen this issue with my own eyes using an ECU I wasn't sure of, when plugging my datalogging cable in, on idle, it was registering 4000rpm and 45degree's of ignition advance, which was clearly not the case LOL
I assumed it's either;
1) dud ECU
2) crome doing it's old buggy days of crap again
3) some sort of wiring issues (possibly the obd2->1 adapter)

It was looked at today and the cold idle control valve under the TB is stuck open.
Easy fix right there Jeff, Dave came through with the goods and found the problem for ya.
