View Full Version : New to Mr. Honda
Hey Guys!
*first post :)*
I just signed the papers and I'm (hopefully) getting my new baby by Xmas!! I've always found forums awesome and been doing a little research on here already :)
Shes a teg vti-r, fairly clean and stock as a rock and its going to be my new daily drive. I've been punting around in a modified '85 (JDM) MR2 since uni, its going to be good to have more than 2 seats, boot and a/c and very wierd to be in FWD!! I don't intend on heavy mods, just alarm, a simple pod and some sound (Im keeping mr 2 for fun/maybe race).
I just wanted to say hi and hope I can help a lil around the place! I am an automotive engineer, working mainly with electronics and control systems but I like to think im a hobby mechanic:) Looking forward to being a honda boy!
PS: I'm going to check my "preferances" but I'm finding that this editor wont take my keystrokes quick enough... im using iexplorer 8.0.6.xxx, is there an easy fix (like use firefox:p)?

Hello. Congrats on the VTIR.
I'm using Firefox but Internet Explorer worked fine for me too.
Yep use Firefox or Opera, IE8 likes to type slow on forums for some reason, I am at a few different forums and always avoid IE8 for posting.
BTW pics when you can.
yay yay yay i have her:)
only minor issues is the thermostat doing the dodgy too cold thing and im sure i only got vtec once on the way home (despite some revvy driving) - might just have to wait till after xmas to get it sorted by the deela! i remember reading that vtec wont work with a cool engine, mine was only getting up to ~1/4 before dropping straight back to cold - is this a plausible theory?
Troy I'll do pictures as soon as the camera is charged and it isnt raining:)

Yes the VTEC won't fire properly until you fix the thermostat. I know because I had the same problem. The circuits do not detect proper operating temperature and VTEC just doesn't work to protect the whole shebang.
Good news is the thermostat is an easy replacement.
And before you ask, in standard form VTEC in the B18C2 motor isn't like some super visceral turbo power. What you get is pulling power that just keep going and the VTEC 'step' isn;t very noticeable because it's so smooth.
But listen for it. Below 4400rpm the engine is like 'roarr...' at 4400rpm VTEC fires, then it becomes 'Roar!!' Then above 5800rpm the secondary intake opens and all hell breaks loose as the motor goes 'ROAR!!!!!!!'
Compared to the Gen1 MR2 (awesome car BTW but I always needed more than 2 seats), you'll find the Integra more eager to rush up to meet the redline and sounding smooth all the way. The MR2 tends to sound strained as it approaches the redline.

welcome man, congrats on the christmas purchase :P
nope sireal mines white, extremely loud with wa plates and ive never been to box hill:) its current condition is actually a lil embarassing, just havent been able to give her up for more than a couple days for repairs..
dinorider i was takin a friend for a spin on the way home from the deela n she pointed out you can still hear the engine note change (at high revs probs ~5-6000) so i think the secondary runners are still doing their shiz just not the vtec also i was pretty sure i got it to fire up once but it was very momentary - maybe the temp just snuck over the threshold ehhe
the 2 also has variable intake runners (tvis system) and it really is noticeable (also 4400rpm). its missing egr etc and does not hesitiate up to the redline - its got the shortest intake and straight out exhaust physically possible hehe (i was a teenager back then:p) - im also suspicious of engine mods from a previous life...
anyway i loooove revvyness, i havent got the right foot dicipline for more than 200Nm :p i just want my vtec (yo?)!

toix,
dinorider is correct when he says vtec isn't some "g-force torque machine"... although don't be dishearten by this at all.
Its an extremely zippy 1.8ltr car with excellent low sense of gravity.
Anywho you don't need me to tell you about it - there is plenty of information on this forum to make you fall in love with your Integra even moar~!
peace

welcome aboard and congrats on your purchase
you'll notice the VTEC sound much better if you simply take the air filter off. best way to enhance VTEC is good old basic I/H/E bolt ons.
hehe yeh i remember vtec from my mates dc2r (n another had a civic vtir hatch) and im being careful not to expect the same from this one:) im fairly sure its not me but the thermostat at the moment tho:)
hoping to get a pod on there in the next week or two, might try and hide it in the fender or stock airbox - ive already seen some info on here bout it & im a big fan of an oversized k&n cone:) no plans to do headers and exhaust for a while or at all - half the point of this car was to have something that doesnt drone on the highway or become painful to drive hungover:)
thanks for the welcome everyone, il try and get some pics up today!

haha ex toyota boy.
Yeah been there with the 20v. Not enough parts to play with to make good power out of the car.
Honda has like almost every part with the ability to mod/ interchange.
I think you've love playing with the car
i didnt plan on engine mods, ive been in a 20v rolla once and the sound was amazing - its the experience not the 0-100 i was thinkin about:) more worried about panels n random parts that have always been a pain with the 2:)
also just uploaded a couple quick pics:)
