I asked a chemical engineer dude about this and he reckons that Shell puts a lot more time/funding into their fuel research and refinement therefore producing a better product.

But most of my mates say BP Ultimate.

Personally I think most high octane fuels are fine aren't they, since they all have similar octane levels and additives?

BP Ultimate.

I've had nothing but trouble when using Shell petrols.

Many fuel problems were had with my previous cars.

As soon as switching to BP Ultimate, no more problems.

mobile 8000 is the better fuel. but the question is shell v power or bp ultimate. v power is the fuel the ferrari company created but personally bp ultimate is the better fuel outta them two

I've always run v power in the b16, might have to give bp a go and see if I can notice any difference

A google search came out with this link:

http://www.7perth.com.au/view/today-tonight-articles/fuel-tests/

" The final results are:
BP unleaded regular
Shell V Power
Mobil 8000
Shell unleaded regular
BP Ultimate
Caltex Vortex 98
Mobil 2000
Caltex Vortex regular unleaded
Liberty PremiuMax
Liberty regular unleaded
Liberty unleaded 94 "

They didn't elaborate much on the tests taken.. and dont know if it just the best suited fuel to the car used.

I always use BP ultimate as there's one just around the corner from me. If I do get stuck I have been known others from time to time, as long as they are the "ultimate" equivalent. In my new car I haven't tried anything else yet.

In the old Honda I had a lot of trouble with the engine running rough and dead spots during acceleration, once I changed to Ultimate it all went away and I've never looked back.

what do you guys think of Vortex 98?

I've used vortex 98 from time to time and found that I get a bit better fuel economy, almost always used v power though, just cause its just down the road, never hav any problems with it

nahh mate, each company brought out their own different performance fuels

yeah pretty much all come from the same refinery (shell and mobil here in melb) to which different additives are added for different brand fuel. I believe BP is up in either SA/QLD/NSW (one of them) so the fuel is usually refined from the closest refinery then formulated to BP/Mobil/Shell/Caltex standards and transported to the servo.

IMO BP Ultimate and mobil are very similar
I don't use Shell and Caltex too much shit in shell's vpower and Caltex gave mum's car several problems from dirty fuel (more servo's fault i reckon for dirty tanks)

I remember someone telling me that V-Power when vtec'ing produces alot of black smoke.
The previous owner of my car said my car ran better on Mobil8000, but I've been using BP Ultimate, and it's given me good mileage. Might switch back to Mobil8000, to see which one performs better in performance.

I have used mobil8000 and bp ultimate. U need to check the colour of the bp ultimate bcoz it is never the same i have been using ultimate for the past 2 yrs. I have filled up at cab rd bp, horsley dr bp, carington bp, Fairfield BP and all have been different. 1 petrol station could be clear and the other is yellow. I found that the clear one last longer and gives u better performance same goes with the mobil8000 same issue. So before u fill up hope to god that the ulimate or synergy 8000 is clear.

I used to use petrol at Caltex Woolworths, since I have docket, it's cheaper. But I also tried normal BP unleaded and I notice abit of difference. Seems like my car is more powerful for some reason. LOL

I haven't tried Ultimate 98 yet, you think I can use that petrol on my D16A8 engine? Also how much is it per litre? $1.20?

i prefer BP ultimate, i find that the car revs more freely. the others tend to make it more sluggish only a little though but enought to notice. next is caltex 98 - better mileage, v-power - average, my experiences with mobil 8000 have been crap - last resort for me.

Ive gotten about 380km in my DC5 on V-power & also notice that the engine idles a bit more aggressively. After filling up on bp ultimate the night before I've notice the next morning the engine was idling very smoothly & more responsive. Still have not yet comfirmed which fuel would give the best milage to be continued... :D

When I had my Evo I first used Mobil 8000 and my car was tuned on it and made 202KW@4 wheels, then I switched to BP Ultimate and I made around 2 KW more than Mobil. Just before I lost my Evo I was using the V-Power and I made similar power with the Mobil. BTW all these figures came off the same dyno, with BP it was dynoed on a hotter day and both Mobil and Shell under similar wheather conditions. The thing I found that makes differences is that BP is very consistent with the quality of the BP Ultimate, but I found that I couldnt get as much mileage out of BP than Shell. Also, make sure you stay away from Caltex, shit fuel!

I read on a forum somewhere (as I was looking for the same answers) Shell burns a lot quicker and isn't as nice as BP but that more often than not, Ultimate is Mobile 8000 resold. Personally I tested all 3 just with day to day driving and what not. Did each for a good 2 weeks and I've settled on Mobile 8000. Whilst I couldn't give you any numbers to say why Mobile is better, it just 'feels' better, if that makes sense.

Bp ultimate! I live in Perth, it is made here, so it's fresh. It's also cracked at 98, not
made up to 98 with additives.

I personally go to the nearest reputable petrol station and purchase the most expensive petrol. Never really bothered me so long as I knew I didn't go for the cheap stuff.

Shell Vpower - car feels week & reduced milage
Mobile 8000 - ok but seems to get alittle less kms
BP ultimate - very good power, but alittle less kms than the Vortex98
Vortex 98 - been the best over all, good milage and reasonable power
