Hi guys,

I need to get this settled. I had a completely seized air con compressor from before and got it replaced but havent flushed the system or regassed it as of yet. I am going to buy a receiver drier to replace the old one as per the mechanic and then get it flushed and THEN get it gassed.

But now, i just called another mechanic saying that if the system had been seized, I need to replace the condenser ($300-$400) and the TX Valve ($200-$250)....

Is that really necessary??

don't see what a seized compressor has anything to do with the rest of the system
guy's just trying to slug you for more money i reckon

i ripped out my air con, let it sit for a year and a half and clean it up about a month ago and whacked it back in

all the same parts(bar new receiver/dryer), just cleaned up with some shellite

the air con guys will vacuum the system out to get all the dirt/crap into the receiver dryer and check for leaks while they're at it

no new condenser or valves here

yeah there just trying to rip you off for some more money, just make sure you get it leak tested before regassing the system

Yeah thats what i'm thinking. But I read some articles and it kinda backs what that guy said. The article said that when a compressor seizes it releases gunk into the system and it gets into the condenser and tx valves and u gotta replace it.

But i guess if all it needs is a good flush... i'll get it done. Did they have to remove the dashboard to get the whole system completely flushed? Or just the pipes?

how does it release gunk into a sealed system? unless your compressor's exploded or something
but i'm guessing the clutch/bearing probably shat itself and sized

It might soound dumb but...

how do u check if gunk actually has been released into the systeM?

you can't really
only doorway into the system is the little window on the receiver/dryer

Do you know which pipes i need to remove to clean/flush the aircon system?
