Here's a Honda S2000 that should have been built before Honda killed its open-top sportscar: Instead of a maniacally revving 2.2-liter, this S2000CR, recently modified by Honda Performance Development (HPD), has the 3.7-liter V6 from the Acura TL SH-AWD.

We expect the S2000 chassis is plenty robust enough to handle the bigger engine, since it's already proven able to cope with a V10. A cut-and-shut Honda S2000 chassis was used as a mule during development of the second-generation Acura NSX.

We'll keep you updated on this project.

mm perfect car, iv had this exact concept in my mind for over a year, but it would go better with the typeS heads, and if you read carefully the paragraf states they only used the engine, not the 4wd system. i cant imagine the car being that much heavyer as the j seres is designed to be superlight, and the smaller j seres drop rite into the same weight range as the k20s do

god i would love to hear the v6 roar from that thing, so over 4 cylz, just dosent sound manly enuff to be a screamer,

The car is still front engine RWD.

ahh I see. so it's basically just a big engine transplant. I'd prefer the f20.

But it no longer would handle like an standard S2K.
Similar to the current 370Z, but Z would be slightly heavier. IMO, the Z doesn't cut it because of it's boring engine. I'd believe a V6 in a S would be quick, but not as exciting.

then consider the car has the roof removed which is about 30kg

and the z dosent cut it for me because of its plastic ugly european interior, and some extrerior, not to mention its peugot engine. if i wanted a peugot i wouldnt be at a nissan dealership

Maybe if they kept the same philosphy..... but ultimately, this will forever be the S2000's shortfall.

You either enjoy driving a torquless wonder with 9000rpm, or ultimately you create a car like everything else out there by cutting the RPM's, playing with your displacement and creating more torque.

Can't have both.

wow

p platers in this country would stuff diffs n clutches in a matter of seconds rather than minutes like they do here lol.

haha
the torque is wat i think everyone would cream over
ours s2000s are pretty decent and if you look at the speedometer when thrashing it..they do set sum numbers pretty fast
BUT THE TORQUE and feeling is not there
isnt a 2jz conversion much more smarter then this?

its not p platers stuffing then, its ppl that cant drive, and im sure i could show you what to do with all that torque, not to mentoin this thing has and extra 50hp stock, and its a mild engine with more potential

iv let almost evryone drive my car, none of my firends have p plates.. the assholes cost me a gearbox and the diff is wel on its way. would you like to explain that?, all the idiots crunch gears and miss shift, froget to drop the clutch in properly ect, i can asure yu that i get very upset wen this happens, and im like the only person that can drive it (and rev match) and have the thing drive smooth, even the new gearbox is ****ed on 3rd gear now thanx to assholes (not p platers..)not the gearbox was fully rebuilt with oem parts and sincros at a reputable shop the parts at cost price were $3000:thumbdwn:

please use yur perfect p plater therory to explain that..

my thouts are a shit driver is a shit driver
and a good driver is a good driver,

irrelevant of age, consider that some boys started racing in events on bikes and cars, in professional events well before they were old enough to drive legally, i dont remember there names, do a search

I think the point being, older (more mature) drivers are less likely to abuse there S2K's eg, hard launches, burnouts, doughnuts, line lockers, drifting, drag race, whatever! However since S2K's have become more affordable with younger buyers, blown diff's and broken driveshaft's have become alot more popular.

CRX- Why let everyone drive your car??? Any dickhead can f@#k any car!

Dude i've seen more full licence drivers destory their s2k then any p plater. Like those illegal drags.. the only people i ever saw doing burnouts was full licence guys in s2ks.. no p platers :) not even me lol.

i lost my liscence for many years and letting others drive is the only way i can safely get the car out of the garage, so its a sacrifice i havoc take i guess,

anyway, imo a car, especially a sports car designed with track use in mind should be able to take this kind of abuse for many years... am i wrong?? are cars supposed to break that fast?? anyway iv already taken steps like getting my ass a nissan lsd diff ect , because lets be honest, the honda/mazda 1 is a peice of shit, more suited to the weak mx5

a balanced car with lsd must be able to drift and do burnouts, if you disagree pleas go to google and look up what an lsd dose before replying

I track my car, as often as i possibly can. I've never broken anything on the track(circuit, not strip), even on the street. So S2K's are fine when there not getting hard abuse.

I treated my previous S2K like it was my 180sx, lots of broken driveshafts and diffs. Everytime something went BANG! it wasn't because it was being driven normally, let's be realistic. Put simply, you drive like a dickhead, expect the consequences that come with it. Don't blame the car. Blame the f@#kwit behind the wheel.

I'm well aware of what an LSD does, what type the S2K runs, and what exactly breaks! Most owners are under the asumption that diff failure, means it's a throw away! But in actual fact the teeth on crown wheel simply snap off. The LSD centre's are quite strong, and if you've managed to break the torsion centre, before snapping the teeth off, your quite the driver! There are option's out there to help the cause of these failures. So it's not necessary to replace the entire diff. A set of final drive gears and a diff collar will help alot. But it won't stop the diff from failing due to hard abuse.

Best you research, before you comment. Or perhaps i can show you a diff apart, there's 4 to choose from, all with broken teeth.

i dont understand why you made this comment, i am aware of exactly wats ****ed on mine, the larger gear has damage to the teeth in 1 section, and im aware of the shit quality end caps, please dont be upset simply because i put down a honda, in actual fact i love my car, and anyway the diff is from mazda anyway, and iv done alot of research into why there shit and what my options are, the main reason they snap seems to be the end caps and the pinion collar flex under extreme pressure, alowing the 2 gears to come apart slightly and therefore multiply the torque the weak mx5 teeth experience, as i dont want more headaches simply because the car has big wheels iv gone for the nissan diff

instead would yu like to tell my how many failures of this sort you have seen on your 180, or better yet any 180, and then consider the power output, its service life comparing to your s2k, and ofcourse how many more 180s there are out there comparing to the low volume s2, and the age of the car.

a sportscar is there for fun, to be treated like a sportscar, not to be incapable, anyway this is 1 of very few FR setups honda has made in the last 30 years, the only 1 im aware of anyway, so its quite forgivable

if you dont agree with my comment, thats fine i wont try to prove this point any further

excuse my question: For ap1,will it help on saving the Diff by changing a ap2 diff casing/aftermarket bigger diff casing?
from my knowledge, the ap1 diffs casing is way too small, easily cause overheating...

JAP-S2K
04-01-2010, 01:20 PM
Anytime,
To my knowledge the casing size is indentical. Spoon do offer an oversized and larger capacity rear casing. However this would only be necessary if you were to seriously track your S2K, for stuff longer than 20min sessions or you could install an external cooler and external pump, which would be more efficient and probably cost the same as the spoon item.

The actual casing and capacity size play a very small part for most street driven S2K's running the factory 4.11, if any at all. This could become an issue if you were to run 4.777 and did lots of high speed driving. But i wouldn't be too concerned.

If your's is N/A and you don't abuse your car. Then a solid pinion collar will near solve any diff's issues. Especially when mated to new final drive gears.
