hi all,

installed my foglights into my eg hatch today, i know the switch is getting powr because its lighting up when i push it in, but the fog lights will not come on, i think it may be the relay because its not making a sound when i click the interior switch, any ideas?

is this genuine or aftermarket harness?
genuine will have two connectors to power under the dash + 1ground and one to the switch the aftermarket will ahve 1 connector and 1 ground, the other end goes direct to the battery for +12.

heres what mine looks like,

oem style fog light with aftermarket harness and so on.

although it only shows 1 ground, there might of been another ground attached to the other light (so one each) but i forgot.
the fuse and the relay may of been the other way around, but thats generally my set up

mine is an ebay one..so aftermarket, i have one earth in the engine bay and one earth inside under dash, im getting power to the interior switch but cannot hear the ticking of the relay so im assuming that the power is not getting to the relay, and i doubt that a brand new relay could be faulty...

obviously your not getting power to the relay. make sure the coil side of the relay has power either by accessories or ignition. and make sure the other end of the coil is properly grounded.

i bought mine off a user on here, but its an ebay kit too. i re-did the wire loom so i wouldnt have cables that could be seen in the engine bay. its fairly easy.

though one thing that gets me puzzled. the OEM switch has:
-1x red/yellow
-2x red/black (crimped together)
-2x black.
there are more cables in the OEM switch than the EBAY switch. anyone know what cables are3 for what?

oem eg6 harness n foggies sitting here atm. as kcokla said, the button has the 5 wires.
the harness itself doesnt seem to have a relay on it. the harness is made up of 2 wires, a blue/red one and black (grnd).

suijin care to shed some light with a diagram of how the eg6 harness should be all connected?

ps ; theres another ground at the switch , except i forgot to draw it.

as mentioned above, i too have a set of foglights that i am meaning to install. my problem is that i dont know how the wiring should be. these are oem eg6 foglights and for some reason there doesnt seem to be any sort of relay on the harness.

its not aftermarket like kcoklas but i'm sure both can be sorted out if someone can drop some knowldge.

ive gotten mine done;

heres a diagram how it should be -

this link may also help:http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2526151

ok - take note
the fuse area thing -
it should go in the 2nd slot from the RIGHT hand side - and they only turn on when your parker lights are on - be aware(accessory slot)

there is also a grounding which i havent drawn in the same spot as the switch/accessory slot.

if you have that setup, i dont see why it wouldnt work.

If they still dont;

check your grounds,

check the slot

check the relay (does it even get warm? if so theres obviously power going through)

another test you can try :

unplug one of the foglights and see if one out of the two works, and try it both ways.
if it ever does work (one of them) ibelieve your fuse will blow which you can replace, and then you've found the problem with the wiring on the foglight plug itself may be bad/not very good. Make sure the wires go straight in and arnt exposed to the metal bracket

any problems feel free to pm me, ill try my best

What was my problem? i had it plugged into the wrong accessory the entire time(mis-read other DIY's and was reading up many last night only to realise it took a simple change!! stupid me!)

im not sure if you'd get one because you have a real oem one :(

but if your wiring is similar to that minus the relay, i guess you could try that!

to ppl interested,

found wiring diagram of the oem harness. heres what i used:

http://docs.google.com/File?id=dgw2d6hg_175fxxsgrd2_b

used 4mm wiring all round (10 or 15amps if i can remember), should be fine as its thicker than aftermarket so i should be safe from fires :P

bought a 12V 30 amp relay from jaycar as i couldnt be bothered salvaging/ searching for a mitsuba relay. same difference.

on a side note...after working for 5 minutes or so, the jdm foglight button as decided to kill itself and now doesnt 'click' in by itself. after opening the button i cant seem to find anything wrong with it, theres no shortage...its a button all it is made of is 2 small bulbs and a switch.

any ideas? cause of an overload of power or just bcuz the button is in bad condition? as far as i can see the inside looks exactly the same as the rear demister button, except the demister actually clicks.

do the lights come on when you press the button, then go off when you take your finger off the button? if this is so, then your relay is fine so then the problem lies at the switch. could be that the switch latch mechanism has broken.

cnez

the button doesnt work at all anymore. it is as if the connection/circuit is broken. ive tried a spare demister button as well an the same thing has just happened. i'm certain its not the button now, which means theres an issue with the wiring.

problem is...it all seems right. its exactly the same as the above oem wiring diagram. most likely is the relay i guess. it is wired up correctly to the relay. does anyone know the specs on the oem relay? the jaycar one is rated 30amps, 12v.

can you hear the relay "click" when you press the switch? maybe you just mismatched the wires going to the relay, as it could be different for the jaycar relay.
