Hi guys,

Over the last couple of months my 2003 Jazz has made a very odd "whooooooppp" noise while the a/c was on. It was not long before the a/c compressor started to sound stressed and make a light grinding noise. Than a couple of days ago the noise got really loud and it no longer worked. I have read it is a common issue in Jazz's (not sure about the current gen) and Honda CRV's.

I called Honda Nundah and got a quote for A/C Compressor replacement and regased.

Here is the quote:

The following is the cost of replacement or repair of issues we noted on 29/12/09. Prices are as of the 29ST of December 2009 and are valid for 4 weeks from this date.
Remove and replace A/C Compressor, TX Valve, Receiver Dryer, A/C Clutch & Clutch Coil, associated O’Rings and Flush and Gas A/C system.

Remove and Replace A/C Compressor and associated Parts.

Parts - $2837.53
Flush & Gas - $210.00
Labour - $650.00

TOTAL
$3697.53

I have called Boss Wrecking and they told me over the phone that they can match up my A/C compressor and provide a replacement for $250. Of course, I will need to get it degased and regased.

Can anyone provide opinions and suggestions?

I now personally have the opinion that I won't buy a Honda next time.

$3697 ? that is a quote for all brand new parts made in gold?

just go buy a second hand compressor and get it regas.
wreckers will have plenty.

I pity the first poor soul who's Jazz needs rear wheel bearings replaced, reco'd CVT tranny and air con. compressor. It'll probably happen by the sound of things.:thumbdwn: Honda.
If it happens to me, I'll rip the bastard airconditioning out, and throw it on my local Honda dealers door step.

havnt come across that many cases for it to be named a common problem in a jazz, perhaps we might start to see more and more cases as the oldest jazz now on road would probably be ~7yrs old.

the quote from honda is way too high, most on this forum would say the same. jst go to ur local mech that u trust, or even a local ac specialist. im sure they can beat dealers price by far.

source out from wreckers/ half cut shops around your area... you should find reliable and working condition spare parts .. i would not suggest you surrendering your wallet to Honda Service Center...;) ..they will cut off your neck that's how the business run
