View Full Version : strange knocking sound

hey guys, noticed it on my way to work this morning.

anyways, usually between 60 - 100, i get this knocking sound, itsa rather quickly and i cant quite determine where its coming from.

on my way to work it sounded like it was coming from the front right wheel well, so after work i jacked the car up and checked everything, seemed ok.

and on the way home from work it sounded like it was coming from the middle of the car between the front wheels.

i checked all the fluids i could see and theyre fine.

personally im thinking it is probably coming from the gearbox or the drivetrain (whatever it is that puts power to the wheels), it isnt really noticeable when im sitting on about 3k rpm in 5th on 100, but when i lightly take my foot on the accelerator, it becomes louder. doesnt make a difference if i shift to neautral or down to 4th, still makes the the same noise. and it seems to get a bit worse when im cornering..

any ideas?

does the noise happen on idle at lights or even in the driveway?

i cant seem to hear it on idle at traffic lights, only when you seem to get going over 30-40 it starts happening, but most noticeable between 60-100

nope, although it slowly moves to the left, which is has for a while, guessing my allignment is out of whack

cv joint or something similar perhaps? dad thinks its coming more from the left hand side

depending on how bad the cv is it'll just click, I know that the hard way.

me and dad jacked up the front of the car had a play around, then took the wheels off, and what do you know, 2 of the nuts on the front left were slightly loose.

after we put wheels back on, and we went for a drive (id been drinking already so i couldnt drive) i couldnt hear the sound anymore.

so it looks like it should be good now.

will see what its like tomorrow if im not still drunk/hungover or when i go to work on sunday night
