Have you checked your oil? Mine does that when the oil is low or if I cold start on an angle.

If I've got sufficient oil, I don't have that problem.

Should I have concern that it is the starter motor when I only have the griding sound when my oil level is close to minimum?

Yes starter motor sticking. I had the same problem when I did not drive it to often but got better, very rarely does it now. I got angry with it one day and pushed the start button again when it was running and has not done it again for awhile lol. See how you go otherwise get it rebuilt or replaced but I think it’s a pain.

if it does end up being your starter motor sticking, have a look at the condition of your ring gear around the flywheel. i have seen various cars that have a sticking starter motor damage or even chip off teeth from the ring gear. may sound a bit extreme but its better to be safe that sorry correct?
