View Full Version : shake thoughout car on acceleration
Hey,
My car(vti-r teg) shakes on acceleration it's not that bad a low speeds but at over 100 is shakes on acceleration. But if i just cruise at 100 it's not really noticeable just when i put my foot down it starts shaking?
Any ideas
Engine mounts or?

do you feel any of the shaking through your steering wheel? ie steering wheel shakes on accelleration?
At 100km/h if you are not on the throttle at all do you still have the shake?

yes the steering wheel shakes a little on acceleration

most common causes of shaking/shudder at high speeds:
- imbalanced/bent wheels
- uneven tyre wear
- torn front bushings
- other suspension damage
perhaps go to a shop to get a wheel balance and get an alignment whilst you're at it.
could also be the tyres if it has worn unevenly. you can try swapping the front and rear wheels and see if that helps.

If you experience shaking with any acceleration past 80kms with your foot down its a text book example of unbalanced wheels.
Note:
if your car shakes - needs balance.
if your car pulls to the left or right - needs alignment.
if the above doesnt help you may need to change your rotor and pads.
the link below is a lil premature.... but if you monitor this and you should get your answer.

unbalanced wheels will cause shaking/shuddering not only on acceleration, but all the time
rotors and pads are only when you are braking
OP is having the issue when accelerating... im not sure what your problem is mate, but it MAY be engine mounts or other bushings?

if any of the above still hasn't sorted you out then check your drive shafts. old/worn cv's may cause some vibration.
thanks for all the replys
My plan of attack is get a wheel balance and an alignment. And replace the engine mounts as a mechanic suspects upper engine mount.
And if that don't work ima slap the shit out of the car

This has just happened to me.
Found out I have 2 buggered CV joints. So where the inner and outer part of the driveshaft meets at the CV joints, there's freeplay and there's shaking occouring.
I have to get both inner and outer parts of the driveshaft replaced $165 each for new/reconditioned ones plus $120 to fit = $460.
Been driving too hard :)

usually a shake/shudder on acceleration only is a bad inner board joint
get that checked first before going ahead with your plan of attack

Inspect your engine while getting somebody to start your engine for you, see if it shakes much, if forward and backwards a noticeable amount your rear mount is gone (Mine went already, too much down shifting, ect
), also grab the block and slightly rock it, see if its noticeably loose (dont shake the shit out of it, just so you can identify the problem)
When you are driving, and you turn into a street, full lock the car (turn down audio) and if you hear a slight cilcking sound its more likely its your CV joints, try those two out first.

My car has been shaking/shuddering from like 80-100+kph but just yesterday. I heard a clunking sound from around the front now it shakes/shudders from about 40kph but only on acceleration.
What could it be and would Honda service centre be the best place to go for a diagnosis.

Sounds like what just happened to me,had to replace the whole driveshaft:

Take it somewhere get them to stick it up on the hoist and check the driveshafts for freeplay.

If your engine mounts are rooted what do you look for. when looking at the mounts?
