View Full Version : Shortened my shift lever (not to be confused with short shifter)

I got bored and did this over the weekend. The stock CD5 shift lever has the gear knob sitting pretty high up (and leans to the left a bit) and does not look that fab with an aftermarket gear knob (the shift boot sags).

So I decided to remove the thing and see what could be done. Clamped it up and took an angle grinder to it and remove the bend in the stick (about 2" cut out) and welded the top part (the threaded bit) to the now short stubby lever.

I must say that used in conjunction with my short throw shifter kit (the thing that reworks the shift geometry) the car is much more pleasurable to drive...not to mention it looks 'tuff'!

If anyone wants to do this and needs some direction just hit me up with a pm.

Looks interesting.

Is the CD5 gear knob a simple standard screw in? I want to replace my stock one, with something like a Momo Air - has the CD just got a standard mount?
