honda oil is mineral oil. A good mineral oil which should be good for 6 months or 5000km.
syn oil is better compare to any mineral oil.

The honda oil was designed for your engine, so it's fine. Running a full synthetic is also fine. Elf is also a good oil.

While Honda Aus' FEO is a reasonable mineral oil, it is in no way better than Edge 5w-30 except for price. Edge 5w-30 does go on sale often for $35 at Supercheap, making it a worthy buy for a street driven car. Last weekend at the 20% off sale at Supercheap, Edge 5w-30 would have been about $45, making it reasonable too.

I lol'd when i saw the shiny sticker on my engine saying 'only use honda FEO!' I dunno if its been there since new, buts its not even peeling or bubbly.

So I put Castrol in it :)

hahaha

wouldnt be that funny if your engine failed , and honda proved it to be due to other oil choices lol.

rather than start a new thread, what are peoples thoughts on using additives like engine flushes and injector cleaners on honda engines. we use these products at work and only really on 1 older honda. it seemed to blow a little smoke after

If a (Honda) car us properly maintained and correct fuels used to keep the system clean , IMO no additives or cleaners should ever need to be used.

Saying that , if an engine has had a lacking past all you need to do is reestablish this maintenace , ie replace all fluids and filters/ spark plugs and that should bring it back to spec .

A few members on here swear by it.I personally would not touch it for a normal inline engine.

Possible reasons for blowing smoke are likely dislodged oil or gunk has lodged somewhere else , or the cleaner has loosened up a seal/s somewhere allowing excess blowby.

Personally, I wouldn't use them. I would instead send the injectors for a proper clean and flow check. I'd rather change oils more often than to rely on engine flushes. Like Bennjamin said, those things can damage seals or dislodging solids which can jam in between bearing journals.

my engine had over 230,000ks on it when that sticker was on, took alot of effort to remove it and it's sticky residue, bloody nasa spaceship glue lol

I used Nulon engine oil flush on my sisters car cause it was long overdue for an oil change. It really thins the oil.

From what i read its best to use it at the early life of the engine so theres not much thick buildup that might damage your engine when it gets dislodged.

I wouldnt touch the injector cleaner stuff though

^precisely... for a motor that has never used it and where you are unsure of its maintenance its not a good idea... the better solution is to get a couple of cheap bottles of oil and run it for a week or so at a time and flush both bottles, then use a good quality oil from then onwards at appropriate intervals...

yeah i realise why the engine blew smoke afterwards..just that it was a honda engine. i know the stuff works i use it everyday and see the results. im just a bit wary as i dont want my motor to blow smoke
