or get one made up at a local exhaust shop. Worth at least asking. I had header back 2.5 with high flow cat for about $750 on my crx. All mild steel.

i dont believe in high-flow cats even though i have one myself, due to the fact that australia has emition laws that prevent cats that release anymore than standard amount of fumes wateva, my family friends own liverpool exhaust and from his information they are all the same the only thing your doing buy geting a "high-flow cat" is that its newer and a tiny bit free flowing, my view is either have a stock cat or a guted one....

thats my 2 cents :)

So if you gut/de-cat your OEM cat (that means you just smash out the middle shit, yeah?) how easy is it to get caught?

Does it make a lot more noise?
Or is it quite unnoticeable?

not easy at all as long as your not caught doing stupid things and get EPA'd, if you get pulled over randomly by th epolice and they look underneath your car it will look normal but if a sound/emmisions test is done at a epa station they will no whats happening for sure!

the noise gets much louder just so you know and alot of power gain.

If you do this it will be noticeable by the smell, having a bashed out cat or a test pipe will make your exhaust stink like crap.
Normal police would probably just think your car stinks, but alot of Highway Patrol will send you to EPA if they think it's suspicious.

calm down lol~ alot of power gain. i dont think so buddy.

i would rather run a cat, then run the risk of being caught for a small 3 hp lol.

no one will know my r33 and my brothers EK have gutted cats cant smell anything never had a problem, i have even been over the pits with my R33 and didnt have a problem.

a cat will break down after 80,000 100,000 kms anyway and wont do much for emissions unless replaced.

i agree, running test pipe on the street, r u unsane? I heard the fine is like $10,000+. Shit, that'll buy you a decent DC2.

BTW, what exactly is your car dude? You say EG and your profile says DC2.

IMO if its a 1.6 (unless its boosted), dont go more than 2.25". You'll be going backwards with anything wider.

And what are the consequences of getting caught with a de-cat?

Just get defected and need to replace it?

Big ass fine?

And is this covered in a RWC? I mean...could you bullshit your way out and say "Oh, sorry officer, I didn't realise - I bought the car like this!"?

thanks fellas :)

consqences in brisbane are, you car will be towed on the spot if it is to loud or to smelly, and further inspected by the environmental protection agency.

sometimes they let you just take it as a defect and you have to go get it changed.

anyway then after that you go to court for a hearing kind of thing. then second one they nail you with 7500 dollar damage to the environment from gasses or something and a 3000 noise pollution fine. plus 2 other things cant remeber, think one was court fee and the other one was to do with some leaking aircon lol

a car is not road worthy if the cat has been replaced with a test pipe or a noise alteration device such as a xforce varex muffler.

POPSIKAL
10-01-2010, 06:25 PM

hisoka
10-01-2010, 07:13 PM
yeah just as loud as a buddy club spec II, bit less.

its just a open pipe muffler welded to the normal pipe.

yeah still quite popular. see some members on here still rocking it, no reason not to, quite cool exhaust
