You've pretty much answered your own question there.

I'm not 100% sure on the specifics, but just give the RTA a quick call and ask them what you need to do with your registration since the colour of your car has been changed, they should be able to give you a definite answer before you rock up to the RTA.

you're suppose to notify RTA that you changed the colour of your car.

however, i changed the colour of my car, been pulled over a few times and never have they mentioned anything about the colour change.

yeah usually have to notify the local road authorities

in nsw for example, rta needs to know to keep systems like their vehicle history check (http://163.189.7.150/myrta/vehiclehistory.html) accurate

First I've heard of it but it probably falls under the "Change of Details" Form used when you change anything like an engine, etc. But, to be honest, I never knew this to be a requirement.

yeah i spoke with them before about it, they told me you just need to inform the RTA, but never said how you needed to do that. Just give the RTA a call, its not like is a major mod or anything

Change of Details form like already stated. They'll get a staff member to go check the colour and then change the details in the system.

common sense really - without these updates to your RTA details , any police officer can pull you over due to conflicting details according to your rego (check)

ok so i got it changed today.

all u need to do is go to rta, wait till ur served like 15mins later......
tell the person how you've changed the color of the car, and that person will come outside, glance at your car. go back inside, change the details of your rego and will show you. and thats it.
