I want to buy a Honda and was wondering which youd recommend
say 5000 - 10 000$
Cheers!

lol@suspended on L's
you say its nothing silly driving with no provisional driver, but its kids like you that make the rest of P platers cop it and future L/P platers.
with just money floating around with no description or any form of desire for anything specific. just make sure it is a honda and that you like it.

i still think itd be the people speeding, drink driving, running red lights and stop signs that are the culprites. Im not arguing that its not silly, just that its not as silly- I needed to get to work and uni.
Integra? Accord? Civic? Could you explain perhaps the key differences?.. atm im lookin at the integra vti-r

sure. he's the one. forget about the drink drivers doing burnouts in their beamers, forget about the spastics losing control of pos holdens on straight roads at 180+ km/h (the whole reason p-platers can't drive powerful cars), forget about all these people and focus on the kid that decided to go for a drive on his l's without p's
5 - 10 grand? iunno, look at e30 beamers, look at preludes, look at da9s (specifically one that's for sale on these forums that looks sxc), look at saving more and buying a better car :P.

5-10K hey? Are you looking to modify the car? if so I suggest finding something closer to the lower end of your budget and allowing some cash for mods.
If you don't plan to modify find something nice and tidy at the higher end of your budget and enjoy it :)

it's a problem with attitude. Driving without a supervising driving is quite silly.
Whose to say that a person who does this, when given permission to drive solo, won't go do something stupid and think "It's ok cos I'm not drunk, they're the idiots!"
but hey that's just my opinion.

I see your point, and agree and also understandd what you were trying to say. In addition, when i was a L plater, i did the same, i was just lucky not to get caught ! but your right, between a L plater trying to get to work or uni, id rather that idiot over a drunk idiot doing a burnout.
but to answer your question,
i think you better list what YOU want in a car, and then the forum can go from there.
Most Honda's imo are great cars, some have better capabilities than others, some people look for differnt things, and that's why its important to know what YOUR after.
5-10k is a good starting point and u have a good handful to choose from. but it comes down to what your looking for, what you want to aspire to(if anything) etc.
I would recommend an integra or a civic - predominately because of the possibiilities and aftermarket support out there for you to have a 'better' driving experience. Im a big fan of very 'raw' 'street' kind of car.
A vtir is a good choice, if your after more power though, which i suspect you would be, just go all the way intoi a type r - (youll need a slightly bigger budget though). Perhaps an eg civic with a b18 conversion would be better suited, around your budget, good power, and lots of future potential. - it comes down to how far you wanna take it.
If your after something more cruisy/more towards luxurious and relaxed yet with power, perhaps a prelude or accord is more your style

your totally right on the burnouts and holdens doing that kinda rubbish, but its also l platers who take turns too quickly because of inexperience and incapability to drive and kill their friends like that girl a year or so back who only got 1 year home detention whilst stil being allowed to goto school etc.

get a cheap eg civic gli with engine troubles and drop a b18c, type r integra engine it. then sell it for uber profit Seems to be what all the kids are doing these days
Just get a shit box that moves. You don't even sound sure of yourself, cars only get older and it'll just cost you money as you go. Don't try to be slick when your just starting.

I agree with V73C, I am on my opens but only just bought my first Manual car, after driving Auto's since my P's test (which I did in Manual). So for me, other than the driving experience, I am essentially a P-plater, I make mistakes that would warrant an L plate like stalling at the lights rofl.
Everyone wants a nice car for their first car, but the fact is, shit happens. I'll never tell my dad but when I was driving his 4x4, I once completely overcooked a roundabout, popped the gutter and missed a pole by less than a 30cm ruler. I would have been driving for about 2 months on P's by then. The truth is, when you are learning, you don't want to be behind the wheel of something you really care about bending.
I would stick with $5k worth of Civic, and play with it. I am finding mine a great little car, and everything I do to/with it is a learning experience.

drive carefully and it doesnt matter whether you're driving a 2K bomb or 30K new car... people like to say driving an old cheap car when u learn to drive is better but stuff that... old cars are more dangerous to a new driver than a new car. if i were you , buy a 10K car at least ... you wont get anywhere good with 5K unless u plan to invest a lot more than 10K in the future when things start to fall apart

before i was on my l's, no one would teach me to drive (so i didnt bother getting my l's) i used to take my dads4x4 joy riding and thats howi laernt to drive.
having said that, i took a turn too quickly and fish tailed out and landed on the curb with 2 popped tyres - luckily, lower contrl arms were fine and no one was killed. it was 3 in the morning.
to OP:
it seems you care enought about your first car to thepoint where uve googled and found ozhonda, hence i suggest finding something you like, (ie not a shit box) and taking care of it. i am almost sure in time youll love it more and slowly enjoy driving/cars more and the modding bug will bite you on the ball sack and youll be throwing more money into it stupidly - yet youll get the pleasure of driving and looking cool in your prized possession.
Ive had a pretty shit box for around 2 years.. Probably doesn't help my case but ive been driving for a few years in a Subaru Impreza GX with 300 000 + kms (to the train station, school, groceries, etc..- can we please not turn this into a topic about how driving on L's is silly [i admit it is,you win]).. so I really do want something new.
The car I want:
Will have speed and power but not an exceeding amount (above average)
Wont have a ridiculous colour as to stand out
Will be used for leisure (road use only- not racing etc)
I will probably try and purchase a car with mods already done to it
Ill have a search around and see what i can find and post some options up for yous to critique?
I didnt know you could get suspended on your L's i thought you just get slapped with a massive fine.
caught 2wice..
2x No provisional person
2x No plates
1x No rego
1x No physical license on me
What years approx am i looking for in the integra/prelude/accord? 91, 94, 97? etc.

can people please aswer him and protend he never talked about his L plate incident.
i reccomend an integra VTiR for up to 10k.

Should of just left out the bit about the L plate incident left yourself open for criticism.
Anyway, might I suggest an EK civic?
By the sounds of it, doesnt sound like you are too afraid of the law...
hence go the slower less powerful car while youre on your reds and save a lot of money in fines.
But the integra Vti-r is a great car or just playing devils advocate here, get an NA6 MX5 and take on the twisties. ;)
yeah i dont need a crazily fast car... I was looking at the leisure cars suggested by other prelude/accord but also really interested in the integra models too
Accord CD5, I got two. :D Really nice comfy cars, got all the niceties that make the driving experience. You can find a nice one of them and still have a little left over for a couple of mods.
Looks good, drives good. What more could you want?

based on what you've said,
id say go for an prelude bb6 (probably abit more than your budget) or an ek4.
if it was me, id go for an mx5 or a b18c eg :)
oongie
13-01-2010, 03:17 PM
5 - 10K go for a MX5.
;)
then get a s2k later and go nuts
does the bb6, cd5 and mx5 have significant speed? Or purely leisure cars..?
any particular years that were good for the make?

do some searching buddy
bb6/cd5/mx5 all reasonable cars.
bb6/cd5 is more leisure imo and the mx5 is not a honda btw.
google is your friend.
my favorite out of the 3 is an mx5
the mx5 is not a honda btw.
i know i know..
okay.. but interpretting the information i find, is a little difficult to me as oppoossed to some of you, hence asking for perhaps some more specificed things to research, year of the make etc, makes it a lot easier.
Integra vti-r, type r, da9
Accord cd5
Prelude bb6
Mazda MX5
Is what ill do some brief research on. Cheers!
Unfortunately, (and no offence but), the MX5 will definately not suit me at all so i guess ill look to the others.

if your into modifying just get a clean example thats been worked and make that guy pay for everything you wouldve wasted time and -alot of- $ doing(besides the point if you take pleasure in doing so). imo preludes the go if you want cruising comfortability etc but its gonna be a bitch finding one at that price. if you want a sportier look and more into the sportier shape of the teg. go vtir theres a couple going round that mark pretty modded. heres one that stands out.
http://www.carsales.com.au/all-cars/private/details.aspx?R=8051204&__Qpb=true&Cr=2&__Ns=pCar_RankSort_Int32|1||pCar_PriceSort_Decimal |1||pCar_Make_String|0||pCar_Model_String|0&keywords=&__No=0&__N=1216%201246%201247%201252%201282%204294965322% 204294965105%20463%20408%20898&silo=1011&PriceTo=408&seot=1&PriceFrom=463&tsrc=allcarhome&__Nne=15&trecs=29&__sid=1260DC0B227A
Yeah thats my plan hey .. to buy a car that already has enough mods done to it..
That is a pretty perfect example you put there, i will definately look into it more..
With preludes, do they still have a bit of pace? (even if its not that of their integra counterparts)
YBJLS4
13-01-2010, 07:39 PM
who said the lude dont got pace? assuming your talking bout vtir of both stock for stock its arguable. prelude vtirs got more power and torque but its heavier. teg has alot more availibility in terms of aftermarket shit. depends whatever you like better.
What do you think of this?.. just for a cheap option
http://www.boostcruising.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=486091&hl=leb_one
Unfortunately that teg from Bass Hill on Carsales is 12hrs away.
Im contemplating getting out a student car loan.. The only reason that tempts me is the fact that ill get a good credit rating once its paid off.

good price if the motors anything other than a dud. at that many k's although you'll find some examples which have been well kept and still run clean its inevitably coming to its end. also thats 300ks on body, suspension, joints etc etc. be ok if since your upgrading anyway.
Yeahh... im gonna start looking into the preludes and accords now
theres few integras that ive seen with like a nice classy sort of look instead of a real sporty fast and furious look (which i dont really desire).. ill keep looking but, keeping yous posted
thanks for the help so far
what is "CD5" in accords and BB6 in the preludes?
tsg88
13-01-2010, 11:17 PM
Googled it?
The BB6 Prelude is the late 90's early 00's Prelude, there is a nice recent thread about buying one of them. I saw a CD5 accord in the 'Cars for sale' area here for $5k, I'd buy it if I hadn't already gone the Civic.

Looks like very Mint ride..unfortunately I'm from Brisbane mate. But yeah I've momentarily concluded ( especially from looking at mwaku's) that I want a manual Lude hopefully in late 90's to 2000's with less than 200 000ks. Is there anywhere else to look beside here, boostcruising, carsales and the papers ? Cheers for the help
