use google

its a trim level.

EF9 was the SiR, the top model, the type R, just like EG6 was the top EG and EK9 was the top EK

EF3 is just a mid spec one, the Si.

What else did you want to know about them? The major difference was the engine, apart from that and the different trim on the upholstering, you wouldn't spot the differences.

The EF3 ranged from 87-91, while the EF9 was introduced in September 89 and was axed in late 91.

When the EF9 was introduced, the whole range had a facelift, so the visual differences are minute. The 87-89 EF3's are considered pre-facelift and look like any other 88-89 aussie spec hatch, but with a 'power bulge' hood (near the timing belt cover).

so this is a facelift yeah?

is this one also missing the rear lip, side skirts and wing from the ef9?

That's right yeah.

The facelift EF3 doesn't come with the sideskirts or rear lip that the ef9 (SiR & SiR II), or the rear spoiler that the EF9 (SiR & SiR II) and EF2 (25XT formula) has.

The gauge clusters are slightly different.

They both came with the push button style ventilation controls (seen in the AUDM CRX), and both had the option for the climate control unit (with the flap over the temperature dial).

The SiR and SiR II both came with leather steering wheels as standard equipment too, while the SI came with a three spoke non leather wrapped wheel (though it was available as optional equipment).
