Hey guys, the brake lights on my 88 civic hatch all of a sudden is on constantly.

When i turn off the headlights they are still on, and since its already on brake, when i do slow down you cant tell that im braking.

Would anyone know what the problem may be? A faulty wire? fuse?

I had to disconnect the battery, for it to turn off.

hope someone can help me. Thanks

lol sounds like someone wired it incorrectly

did you recently change to different style tail lights?

when my friend changed his tail lights he wired it wrong

so when he put his blinkers on, his brake light would flash

it has to be faulty wiring, you should probably get it checked

I pulled the tail lights out when i got it resprayed. All i did was put it back together and it was normal.

Just happened tonight when i turned off the car and realized that the brake lights were still on, and the whole car was off, headlights were off.

i think theres something wrong with the wire that controls the brakes when u slow down? i dont know.. =/

if thats the case then try slamming your brakes a few times lol

hmm when you took the lights out, did u have to disconnect any wiring?
(i dunno how respray jobs work)

cos if u did have to disconnect wires, theres the possibility that when putting them back together u could have accidentally did it wrong..

im sure the local car service place can fix it up 4 ya

Have you checked if you're low on brake fluid?

arrived a little late, but hopefully can elaborate on the above post, it's not uncommon on ED/EF's.

When the brakes are off (and pedal is held up by spring tension) there's a little black rubber stopper attached to the pedal that depresses a white button.
It's quite common over time for this little black stopper to get brittle and break off.
To fix the problem, you just need to make a replacement stopper, i used a small nut and bolt that now presses the white button, been working fine for the last 3 years
