Hello all!

I am interested in changing the wheels for my Jazz Vti to either a 15" or 16".

I aksed Honda Australia, they said the Vti-S have a different set up to suit the 15" wheel compares to the set up for the Vti.

I also read from other place that it is not a good idea to change to a larger wheel size (17" or above) as it will have some negative effect the Jazz's steering system or something.

Can someone clarify this for me?

It will be great if someone can give me some pros and cons about changing the wheel size, such as effect on fuel concumption, power ...etc.

this is right as i have been told by mechanic as well.
15 or 16 will be fine and with a better tyres will be enough

I never heard the vit and vtis have the different setup but i dun think it is tho.... coz from the spec, they are the same

i think that's a lot of bull but they may know something i don't

well replacing 14"s with 17"s is illegal, the biggest is +2 = 16"s. if you have 15" from factory (ie. VTIs), then 17"s ok.

changing to a bigger &/or wider wheels would generally improve grip (not necessary handling tho) as lower profile tyres usually have softer compound and you have more rubber to the ground. also the look department would generally improve too.

a few things to beware:
1. check with your insurance coy the max size you can upgrade to;
2. make sure the overall diameter is not changed significantly, otherwise the speedo will not be correct;
3. make sure the offset is correct for the wheels. it is illegal if the wheels sticks too far out and it may rub with the guard;
4. choose some wheels that is light, Jazz doesn't have loads of power and you wouldn't want to slow it down further. also increase unsprung weight is an enermy to good handling;
5. buy the best tyres you can afford. at the end of the day, this is the only item on the car that touches the ground. don't spend big money on state of the art wheels and have to settle on crappy tires.

hope this help.

Thanks TypeG and Philip Lee for your input.

I proably go for a 15", don't want to change too much. However since I only got my car for like a month, the stock tyre is still new, I might wait a while for the change. Also there is the money part of it, I think the whole thing should cost more than $2k.

If I change I like the Lenso VE wheel, but not sure on what tyre is good, advise on that will be good for my reference.

I don't think it will cost u more than $2k for 4 wheels and tyres, coz' u can buy a package (wheels and Tyres) which is usually cheaper.

Philip sent me a website (Tempe Tyres) and they have a cheap package, the cheapest 15" package is $700 only, and u can upgrade the tyres as well. It also shows the shipping fee, around $85 to anywhere in Aust. However, i am not sure the quility, i heard form Philip said they are made in China stuff. (Correct me if i am wrong)

but i am not really sure about the quailty. But Philip said many MX-5 are uisng the first one recnetly, because it is ultra light (aroung 5Kg). The price are very attractive too! he he :D

In my opinion, i like shadow chrome and burshed sliver. I don't really like chorme coz' that is too shine, and too westen (鬼"Lo") style! (but the first on seem like a chorme one)

the first one is shadow chrome with machined lip. definitely not chrome. chrome wheels are usually heavy.

it's legal to replace 14" iwth 17" ... the 2" difference is about the over all diameter of your wheels... so if you change your tyres to a lower profile.. u will be fine

hi NTGD,
i'm in the same boat as you are.
looking at changing to 15"s within the next few weeks. I like the Lenso VEs too. replica of the VOlk TE37.

as for tyre choice, you should look at Bridgestone G3 or BFGoodRich's G-Force Sport?

I bought my insurance from Honda (The company is called Swann Insurance). I just check with them, and they said i can only change to a wheel which is 1" bigger then my original. Coz' i am driving GLi, and that is 14", i only can go for 15"

not bad but i prefer these ones:
http://rayswheels.co.jp/emenu/datas/GRAM/04_57S/03.jpg

i believe gramlights are not too expensive. the above can be found for under $1500 with tyres.

NTGD - i was quoted $800 for lenso VEs with cheapo tyres, $1300 with BF G'rich tyres. prices are for 15"s.

looking to get some alloys on mum's new jazz (2010 model)
I got the VTi which comes in 175/65/15 (tyres/wheels). The VTi-s has 185/55/16 (tyres/wheel). Basically i just want 16" wheels on this car.
I noticed the wheels of the VTi-s is 16 x 6. Looking around i can only find wheels that are 16 x 7. Is there a big difference? Would i be able to use the 185/55 tyres on 16 x 7 rims?

hoey888

16x7 uses a 205 width tyre, however 215 width can be accomadated by stretching.

bear in mind 16" tyres are pretty expensive, since you'll be looking at getting 205/45/16 tyres. re001 are around 180+ a corner

I wanna give my old man's White CVT '03 Jazz some nice mags. Those stock wheels look so pedestrian!

But then again, he'll scratch the shit out of 'em. (never had mags in his life)

He scraped a mag on my em1, and i made him replace it bwahha. I guess im a bad son.

205/40r16 for a sick look IMO.
