Hey guys I currently need to get a new engine and gearbox for my 97 lude I had a BB6 engine and I have been looking around for a new one. I have found earlier lude engines such as a BB4 but my mechanic said it will not fit or be suitable? I am having trouble finding a bb6. What engine is a suitable fit and cost efficient? If anyone can direct me to a place where I can find one that would be appreciated also.

to keep the rta happy, you'll need to replace it a newer, if not same year engine.

what happened to yours? do you have an si (f22) or vtir (h22a) engine?

best fit and most cost effective would just be another engine of the same type i'm afraid. whereabouts you located also?

check out your local wreckers, or honda specialist workshops

I am in Melbourne It is a Vtir I have had a look around and found one for 2800 with the gearbox included but I do not know if that is a reasonable price because I still have to obviously pay for labor.

well the easiest and best option would be going back to the stock engine. other then that man, nothing else you can do.its like saying, i got a gli civic, i wanna put a shitter engine in there, which is like a breeze carb engine.. just dont bother.

h23a vtec? lol put that in then if u found it. whats the newer s-type engine? just think, if ur goin to sell the car, putting a different engine thats crappier then the original is going to make it alot more harder 2 sell

The engine from the older Prelude has a different OBD.
The most cost effective is the same one, and less cost effective one would be the type S engine.

The H23A vtec is ok, but I dont think its worth the money. And I dont know if its completely a drop in.

H23A VTEC you won't get a gear box or if you do it will be auto since they only came in auto.

Type S would be a hassle unless you had a ATTS, not a regular VtiR.

HondWreck had a JDM SiR-S a while back, they may still have it now.

SiR-S has the same engine as the 220HP Type-S, but with an LSD instead of ATTS.

Since it doesn't have ATTS, might be easier to get in if they still have it.

Someone on PreludeAustralia is supposed to have fitted an S Spec engine (possibly that one) to an ATTS. If so then the S Spec also uses an ATTS block, so same issues with fitting.

I stand corrected.

Sell the ****er without an engine?
He started with a H22, so just replace it with one. You dont have any real cost effective alternatives.

stick with the h22a just not right if you put any other motor in it.

You can buy a conversion kit from the US for a K20 swap...

(Note: this will not an easy nor cheap exercise)

The best option is to get the original engine again.

Seeing as Preludes are not as commonly modified there are few after market options for them.

Whatever you save on the engine but getting a different one you will likely pay 5-10x the difference in extra labour.

anyone got an idea on how much labour it would be to install cam kit and tune?

i thought the h22a engine was one of the better and easier engines to mod and tune? i would stick with the current h22a engine in your VTi-R Prelude and just mod it to the shit house.. it seems to have the most kw's stock anyway.. if i cant get myself a VTi-R Prelude.. and instead only a 4th Gen i was planning to do a conversion and get the h22a engine dropped into it.
