That might count for nothing if you write-off your car and they find a different engine it. Im sure the cost of the engine upgrade on insurance shoundnt be that much more. Esp since your an older guy not 18-19 etc.

3. mods (if any) --------------------Declared tinted windows, bodykit (?) alarm, imob
4. insurance company --------------Just Car
5. $cost$. -------------------------$618 (or something like that includes $35 rating 1 protection)
My premium went up by about $50 for the windows and body kit, my excess is $700 if it's my fault or the car was damanged while parked. Stolen excess is $350. Agreed value is $11K
Little more detail, I was lucky to get rating one as my previous insurance (Mutual Community) was only going to give me rating 4/3 (something like $1500). However when I was calling around I got to a 'testing' group at justcars who were doing quotes on your drivers experience- not how long you've held insurance!
(In Adelaide, you can get your drivers at 16 hence 5 years exp driving, most insurance companys give you rating discoung on how long you have held insurance, on my old car I was listed as secondary driver for 4 years and main driver for 1 year but they could only lower it by 2-3 ratings!!)

I am not sure about Owned by AAMI, but I know they do work in conjunction with each other. Maybe they are a part of each other.

I just checked with justcars and they quoted me this
Civic EK4 VTi-R with unlimited mods @ agreed 18k (they wont let me have more)
$1152
excess $700 if stolen or damaged
Also they let me start off @ 30% NCB.
Apparently if you were on 60% NCB it goes down to ~$700??
How would they know if you were on 10% or 60% NCB? Everyone i called has just taken my word for it. Ive been driving for 7 years and ive been the "nominated" driver for my other car. When i checked with QBE/RAC/SGIO they let me "have" the 60% NCB for "free" because ive been driving for 7 years?? But justcars is baseing that on the fact that ive been a nominated driver instead of my years of driving.
Anyone know if they have a sure way of checking?? Or if i just say i have a NCB of 60% now they will have it on record from now on im on 60% NCB??
Cheers

I just checked with Western QBE insurance and they quoted me this
Civic EK4 VTi-R with 16" Rims, Recaros, Exhaust @ agreed 21.4k (they wont let me have more)
At first they quoted $800+ then down to $631 then finally $571!!! Make sure you guys bargain like crazy as the lady had to check with her supervisor a couple of times before i got this price.
When i checked with them yesterday they would only cover me for 18k @ best price $550.
Excess is $500 for me until next year when it drops down to $300.
Condition is nobody on P or L and under 24 allowed to drive it.
I get unlimited glass breakage, windows/glass etc etc doesnt affect my NCB and im free of any excess charges.
Also they let me start off @ 60% NCB as i was a nominated driver with them last year (main driver was my mother). We were with them for 1 year only. Previously was with RAC. Maybe its a good idea for the younger drivers here to start off with QBE just as a nominated driver (so you dont have to pay the extra premium of being the main driver) and later on get the full 60% NCB. I personally think its worthwhile as the NCB is on record forever so should you decide to change insurance companies you will have the 60% already.
Apparently QBE will give you 60% NCB if you have at least 1 year insurance with them and you have been driving for 5+ years. That sounds pretty good to me as NCB Ratings do make a *LOT* of difference on your premiums.
Will keep you guys updated as i make more enquiries. For those of you interested in getting a quote from QBE their number is 131303.
Cheers

Hey,
I think you have done well HyperZ. And your right, negotiate with them. I sent a email complaint to Just Cars to Up my agreed value, because on the phone they would not do it, gave them some valid reasons, told them I was looking elsewhere, (which I was) they got back to me and increased my value and keept the premium the same.

How would they know if you were on 10% or 60% NCB? if you were to take up the policy with them they would have to require proof of your NCB - usually fax it to them, or if you're in the branch, just show them the old one
of course they're not going to take your word for it!

Yeah, they will usually ask for a copy of your previous insurance policy. Actually I told them I have had my Drivers for 5 years but they never checked so that is kinda strange o.O Maybe they have access to these things...
With JustCars, umm go do the online quote thingy, and do it every couple of days until you get one back that you like? As I mentioned earlier there are a group of people in JustCars who are testing the 'years driving experience' as opposed to 'years insured' so that might help...?
So, question... if I want them to bring up the aggreed value of my car I just email them and complain? When I got my car insured they said the 'normal' insured value was 13-14K but I got the car for 11K so thats what they based it on...
If you have a alarm/imob, make sure you let them know too because that can get you a discount too.
*If you get your registration plate changed, make sure you let them know and get a new schedule sent to you too, otherwise they may not pay you!

So, question... if I want them to bring up the aggreed value of my car I just email them and complain?!Hey, I would not say that this would work for everyone, maybe I was just a bit lucky. But hey, if your not happy about something you should voice your opinion. And hell we are paying them for a service. I can post the email I sent Just Cars tomorrow if it helps, but basically I was on the phone to them a couple of times asking that I wanted to increase the agreed value and they would not do it. I got the point then where I put it all in writing to them stating my reasons and I attached some photos of my car. I also told them I was in the process of looking for another insurer, of which I was. The got back within minutes and they increased from 11k to 18k for the same premium.

OK couple of updates and tips for you guys,
I called up QBE again and spoke to a different operator this time. Did the whole quote thing all over again and they gave me a price of 700++ and the guy wouldnt budge so i said fine no problems, so i asked him a hypothetical question, i said i have a 1.6L engine in there atm and its in pretty bad condition im thinking of swapping a 1.8L Honda engine in there would there be any extra in the premium? Guess what, there isnt! He said as long as ur not doing anything drastic like popping in a V8 (I have a feeling its the number of cylinders that matters), make sure after you change the engine give us your engine code and if the capacity is not a huge difference that'll be fine! (Of course i didnt mention anything about it being a B18CR out of a Integra Type R). I asked him a 2nd time to make sure it wouldnt increase the premium and he assured me that its fine i just have to make sure i update the engine number with them when the swap was complete. He was trying to get me to sign up on the spot but i refused of course :D
Then i called up again and spoke to a different operator and this time i used my referral number i got from previous call enquiry for $571 and tried to get them to lower the price again. After a whole bunch of noways and this is our best price etc etc... i got this out of her!! Take note guys this is a *Very* useful tip, if you are sharing the car with someone thats over 50 or 55 (not sure didnt ask) make sure you nominate them as your main driver and you will get 5% off the total price for senior citizens discount! I asked if it mattered to the premium whether i was the main driver or not (assuming i didnt know about the 5% discount) she said as long as both drivers are over 24yrs old they dont care who the main driver is!!
So FINALLY my comprehensive insurance cost for a 1996 EK4 Hatchback with 16" Rims (If you are with SGIO take note they dont cover rim widths more than 6.5!!), Recaros, Fire Extinguisher, Tinted Windows, and a B18CR covered for an agreed value of 21.4k is
$541 dollars!!
Dont ask me how they got that as $571 - 5% = $542.45 but who am i to complain :)
I made sure that price is locked into their system, got their reference number for future, asked them how long the quotes valid for (30 days) made sure i wrote that down somewhere then gave myself a pat on the back
Oh yea, for those who want to increase their agreed value over what the insurance computer would allow (in my case only 16k for an EK4), all you have to do is list the value of your mods to the operator when you are telling them, not *after* as they wont increase the value afterwards. I think its a worthwhile thing to do as it doesnt affect your premium much. First time i called they would only offer me a max agreed value of 16k for a premium of $631 dollars!! Make sure you list your mods and things of value in your car!! Then start bargaining !! :!:
Hope this little exercise helps you guys get a better deal for your cars and it definitely pays to shop around!! Gd Luck!!
Cheers

Just cars is underwritten by AAMI. AAMI usually dun insure imports and they will direct u to just cars if u have an import. The reason just car insurance is cheap and let u have unlimited mods is cos they have high excess if u make a claim and they have very low budgets for repairers so repair jobs may end up a bit dodgy.
And im not sure about gving insurance companies inaccurate information. Cos they dig up everything in the event that u make a claim. And they may give u a quote based on the information u give, but they may ask u to forward documentary proof when u actually sign up.
Please state ur

Hey guy's,
Insurance companys get me all stressed.
Im a panel beater and see lots of insurance claims, be very carefull with the details that you give them when taking out a policy as they can and will cancel your policy any time they want to. If you have a claim and they inspect you car and think that there is a problem you may be left with a damaged car and no insurance.
I find this thread very interesting as we may get a better deal if we let the ins companys know we are all comparing there details.
keep up the information.

The part I am not happy with is the value, its market value which is detemined by them at there discression. I have had written valuations done at the time of renewal so that I have proof of the condition and true value of my car in the event I have a problem with them.
