Im not quite sure if this is anything to worry about or if I was just a doosh and didnt have the stick pushed all the way in first gear.... but something realy weird happened for the second time today. I took off in first gear (the last time it happened I was in first as well) and when it got to about 6000 revs the power just cut out as if it was in neutral. Due to slow reaction and not stopping to think, both times I just pushed it into second gear and once I had time to gather my thoughts I couldnt remember if it had slipped back into neutral or stayed in first gear when the power cut out.

Has anybody else experienced a problem like this? Im realy praying that theirs not anything wrong with the vtec. I mean vtec has engaged perfectly every other time and after this happened it worked straight away.

u mad?

Was your engine cold?

yeh that makes sense... both times it happened the engine was cold. the car had been parked for a while and I went to drive it hard straight away which was pretty stupid not warming it up first. I should have thought of that. Lesson learned, I wont be doing it from now on.

Drive for about 5 minutes before you give it above 4000 rpm. Otherwise the engine and oil could still be cold and you risk damage to the engine by revving that high and hard.

Always warm, or drive at low RPMs til you get a few bars in your engine temp indicator
before any throttle happy moments.

you also need to remember that your engine oil takes longer than your coolant to get to operating temp. if you use your temp gauge on your dash as a reference point of when to have fun, after a while things are gonna turn pear shape. if you want to make sure you have fun at the right time, fit an oil temp gauge and wait till it gets to about 70 degree celsius before you start giving it to it

I believe you need 3 lights of heat before vtec will engage.

Not on my new engine, even at a track day. My old engine that died yes, blown head gasket.
