Hi, i know there are billions of thread about HID and also a few on the fd with HID, im just wondering about people who have installed them and how are they working and would love it if you cant post some decent photos of the lights and cut of points and the brand will be nice too :D.

so to make it short
Post photos
details on their hid kit (how much,brand...etc).

Also wondering if the housing for the light of New Zealand or Japaneses FD /w HID are different to the Australian FD. Also if anybody have tried to get them from wreckers b4.

Sup!

I've recently installed a 6000K HB4 slim HID Kit in my FD1 about 2 weeks ago.

The install was easy-ish. Took off the front wheels and had to access the low beam bulbs from under the front wheel plastic guards. Took me a couple of hours cos I'm a newbie...

The light the HID Kit emits is wicked (a white/purple tinge) and they have worked fine thus far. I also haven't had any problems with "blinding" other drivers on the road or the Fuzz aka Police... as nobody has high beamed me and I have also driven past a few Police cars (i'm certain they were in awe and jealous :p)

I bought my set from Platinum Visuals a Trader on this forum for around $100ish. However, these are on SALE now (till 31 January 2010) for the HID Kit for $78 expressed... which is a fricken BARGAIN... certainly BANG FOR YOUR BUCK!

You can check out some pics and more details in the link below

Hope this assists :)

o noice, is the right side of the car slightly elevated when picture is taken?

BTW are those DC5 wheels i see on your car?

eNGee
19-01-2010, 02:02 PM
The right light appears to be higher, however, my car wasn't elevated when i took the photos, my driveway is sloped and the garage roller door was open...

Correct! DC5s wheels

BTW... i have also recently changed the front parker lights to SMD 1watt (thx ebay) so now both HID low beams and parkers match.

no need to take ur wheels off, just turn ur wheel to one side, that saves heaps of time and u dont have to work on the car with it jacked up, much safer =p i did my brothers car a while back, took about 30 mins, just make sure u get ur alignment balanced on bothside so ur hids project evenly and not have one higher than the other or it looks fked

dny
25-01-2010, 08:33 PM
ha yeh i tried that turning crap. my heads too big and i wanted to look inside so i just took off the wheel :P

hahaha alrite, good luck with that, but if u havent brought ur hids yet, i got a mate who sells/installs em from bout $160 fitted, he has all brightness (3k -120k) available suited for all cars. his name is allen, pm me if u want his number..save urself the trouble lol

I mite be doing HID's soon.

reason no-one has photos is because it's a simple plug n play job - ridiculously simple, and you have to go behind ur wheel arches and through that plastic cover, which is also hard to take decent photos of. I"ll give it a shot, but i might not get aroudn to it for a few days, or weeks even. I get lazed.

isnt the install teh same as changing low beam bulbs engee? .. it's plug and play hid yeah? just need to find somewhere to mount the ballasts; then plug teh bulb in like you would low beam n they should be good to go?

did you need to change fuses or anything?

ivtecep3

theres plenty of room behind the guards to mount the ballasts, sum hid kits come with mounts, or just use some double sided tape n cable ties ^^ hehe

Ok I have a noob question on this topic.

I just installed my HIDs yesterday. They look freakin awesome! They're the 6000k from Platinum Visuals. Thanks for the link at the start of this thread btw.

Anyway installed everything ok but one thing I'm wondering is whether others are actually disabling the small bulb that lights up on the inner side?? Not sure what it's called but this is the very low beam ones when you turn the light switch once.

I don't really mind the yellow light showing together with my HIDs but I was just curious as to what others are doing...

Cheers.

PS: I might try and take some pics tonight to put up here.

Rather than disabling the parker light altogether, I've changed the stock parkers to 1 watt SMD bulbs (courtesy of ebay - approx $5 for a pair posted)^.^ It looks alright, a slightly different colour than the HID's but definately better than the stock yellow parkers.

To change the parker's you'll have to access via the hood/engine bay. I'll try and upload some pics tonite.

NOTE: +1 for .k.'s D.I.Y. Watch out for the overflow rad bottle. It's easy to take out, hard to put back!!

Just get something that's bright - 1W is probably good to go with. Nice n bright - i can see a lot with my 1w smd led's.

LED's blow quite easily - beware of that. They cant handle much current spike, so make sure your lights are turned off when ur engine starts

Oh BTW. Found this on another site.

Proceed at your own risk and your own liability.
This is a DIY thread for the KAIXEN HID Kit for the 8th generation Civic. You can purchase this HID kit from us for $305 shipped to the continental US.

Parts:

KAIXEN HID KIT

http://gallery.8thcivic.com/albums/album05/kai1.jpg[/mg]

DIY Instructions:

1. Raise the front of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands in the proper locations.

2. Remove the front wheels.

3. Remover inner fender liner. There are about 5-6 clips.

[img]http://gallery.8thcivic.com/albums/album05/kai2.jpg

4. Unclip the white connector for the low beam bulb by pushing in the tab and pulling down.

http://gallery.8thcivic.com/albums/album05/kai3.jpg

5. Turn the bulb housing counter clockwise and remove.

6. Insert new HID bulb and turn clockwise. Be careful not to touch the bulb b/c the oil from your fingers will rub off on the bulb. When the bulb becomes heated this oil will cause the bulb to burst. If you do touch it wipe it down with rubbing alcohol.

Here is a pic of how all the connectors mate up.

HID Kit connections

http://gallery.8thcivic.com/albums/album05/kai4.jpg
Car and HID Kit connections

http://gallery.8thcivic.com/albums/album05/kai5.jpg

7. After setting the bulb in the headlight housing correctly and mating up all the connectors in the HID kit and to the original connector check to make sure the HID kit is working by turning on the headlights. If the headlight does not come on you will need to check to make sure the wires are routed properly. Turn the headlights off and try the following. Here is how to confirm it.

Find the white connector from the car (the original connector that plugged into the stock halogen bulb) and the blue connector from the HID kit that plugs into it. Make sure the the black (negative/ground) wire from the blue connector matches up to the black (negative/ground) wire on the white connector and that the red (positive/power) wire from the blue connector goes to the green (positive/power) wire on the white connector. If they are not matched up correctly then you will put out the spade connectors and switch the two wires as shown in this picture. Notice how the blue connector red wire is now going to the black wire and the red wire to the black wire.

http://gallery.8thcivic.com/albums/album05/kai6.jpg

8. Now put the double sided tape on the back of the ballast and find a good location to stick the ballast to. Make sure that the ballast has room to aerate and that water won't be dumped on it. Although it is waterproof I wouldn't put it in a spot where tons of water would fall on it.

http://gallery.8thcivic.com/albums/album05/kai7.jpg

9. Put the fender liner back on and repeat for the opposite side.

10. Put the wheels back on and torque to 80 ft lbs in a star pattern.

11. Enjoy your HID's. These are my KAIXEN 5000K's (extreme white).

http://gallery.8thcivic.com/albums/album05/kai8.jpg

We also have:

6000k - extreme white w/ hint of blue
6500k - extreme white w/ hint of purple
8500k - extreme blue

Like i said earlier, we supposively have a better mounting location right underneath the FD's headlights, so try do it there (i'll haven't seen it for myself though.)

i put my ballasts differently on each side... the right side i screwed it into place with the piece and the left side i just zip tied it down to a really neat and secure spot. i would show pictures but you'd have to pay me just to take my wheels and wheel lining off :P

for the left side i watched this video but i tottally forgot where i got it from and the right side i followed this link here

Muzzy
27-01-2010, 12:40 PM
I fastened my ballasts with zip-ties on both sides. There was a nice little bracket on both sides where I could just place the ballast on.

The zip ties go over and around the ballast though. I'm hoping that wouldn't cause any issues due to heat right?

It says not to use zip ties in that DIY guide because the ballast needs good grounding. But mine actually sits on the metal bracket so it should be good enough..

HEy guys, i'm about to go do it, but the kit i got is missing the other bit of foam tape (kaixen kit), thanks to ganj3 who couldnt pull it off properly from his old FD.

The function of this tape is to stop any contact between the metal plate you mount it on, and the ballast (so that ur ballast can't discharge the wrong way..

I was going to squish up a sponge and stick it in between, but i'm concerend that
a) the sponge might melt if the ballast gets too hot
b) the ballast may spark causing the sponge to melt or even catch fire.

Any recommendations? I'm trying to find spognge tape arund the house, i KNOW it's aroudn somewhere, but can't find it :(

any suggestions for now?

Either that or you have received a defective pair...

Nah I wasn't expecting to see anything with the parkers. I think I was just comparing them to the HIDs and they seemed to be a fair bit more dim.

I remember looking on ebay and they have some with 4 LEDS etc. Not sure if they would suit the car though, might require higher voltage.

I'm content with my purchase now. I think it's fine :)

4led ones are 4 crap led's as opposed to your 1 super led that you just bought - better quality light you've bought.

Parkers are only to give colour to your reflector though, not actually create light.

i used 'flank' led's - the FD's numberplate lights need the light to come out of the side of the bulb, not the top.

i recommend warden_jp2002 on ebay. products are superior to the australian seller ebuyproduct. He's from HK but he ships on time :)

I just checked out some of his products. He seems to sell a lot of the 5 LED SMD bulbs. In fact I couldn't see one single LED one?

So you reckon the single LED is superior to warden_jp2002's 5 LED + ones?

a single 1W led is superior to one with 5 smaller LED's, definitely.

sorta like a quality over quantity approach.

where did we all ended up mounting the ballast, and did we stuck em on with double sided tape or bolts or ties?

im thinking about the top side like the pictures with the kinix kit photos. any better idea?

Do you see that thing connecting the fender to the chassis? like... near the bottom of the photo?

I cable tied it on there.

the right angle bar? it dont have have any airbag sensors there right? my initial though was to place it there too when i had a look under the car. does the ballast get hot? cus i have a little black box which hangs of it dont know if i should just place it on top of the ballast.

Yeah I think I cable tied mine on that bracket too from memory. My cable ties actually go through the holes and around the ballast to hold it on tight. I hope the ballasts don't get hot coz that means the cable will melt after a while. Have to open it and double check over the weekend to make sure it's still ok. Been about a month or more no issues.

Recently put on my H11 foggies and they were a little tougher as there's less room. But I bolted one of those (with the bracket) that caused some room/positioning issues.

There is a hole or a screw on the top of the headlight under the plastic that cover which, covers the headlights and radiator. The plastic is held down by the nobs which are like for the plastic cover in your wheel arch (the thing which you pulled off to install the hid) but they don't have a notch like the ones there so it makes it a bit harder to do. and im not sure if there are any hidden screws.

btw on the top of the plastic cover (over light and radiator) there is a sign there on both left and right hand side with U and D im guessing is directly under there.

here some photos for FD1 Civic with hid kit
1. full lock your wheel to one side
2. take off the cover
3. take off the light
4. put the hid bulbs in.
5. mount the ballast under the headlight

time: depend on what is you want take off the wheel to do or not. usually take around 45min to an hour.

hope this can help ur guys
